The Nightmare Problem of the Elm Street Reboot

since on Elm Street The iconic series, which premiered in 1984, helped shape the future of horror and hack and slash by introducing a famous villain to shape a series of creative kills. Created seven films and one spin-off, freddie and jason; however, the reboot is official and it stars a fairly steady cast of Rooney Mara, Clancy Brown and Jackie Earle Haley. The film received dismal reviews upon its release. However, on Elm Street It performed extremely well at the box office, grossing over $100 million on a production budget of $35 million. 2010’s reboot remains top-grossing work Elm Street Legendary, but surprisingly no sequel was made despite a strong teaser at the end. There’s no official word on why Warner Bros. didn’t capitalize on the film’s success, although it’s been rumored that feedback from the film was one of the main reasons Warner Bros. didn’t make a sequel. Plus, Wes Craven wasn’t particularly happy that the studio didn’t contact him about the reboot. However, another reboot of the series is in the works, but an official date has yet to be set. So, what happened to the 2010 reboot? There is no denying that the film was a commercial success. However, the reboot fell short of the high standards set by the original.
One of the key changes in the reboot is some changes to Freddy’s backstory. In the original, Freddy was a child murderer; however, the reboot takes him in a darker direction by turning him into a pedophile. Here’s the thing, making Freddy a pedophile really took a whole lot of fun out of the series. Don’t get me wrong, child murderers aren’t much better, but crime isn’t as sickening and heinous as pedophilia. Freddy Kruger is the star of the team. The Robert Englund version is still a playful and savage voice with plenty of charm and charisma that allows you to enjoy the presence of your main antagonist. Jackie’s version of Earle Haley is wise to take it seriously, because thankfully the filmmakers understand that audiences will never like Kreuger because of his backstory that no one can ignore, but makes Kreuger a darker character It obviously drags down the movie. Without Freddy’s charm and wit, the film relied on the back of the lead; despite Rooney Mara in the lead role, even she couldn’t overcome the bland script. She, Quentin, Chris, and Jesse aren’t particularly exciting roles. Granted, Nancy Thompson isn’t the most exciting “Last Girl” lead in movie history. However, Nancy is a brave and positive protagonist who happens to be likable. We don’t support Nancy because some child murderer is trying to kill her, we support her because she’s able to connect with the audience. Robert Inglend’s claim that the film jumped into the plot too quickly without developing the characters in the first place sounds plausible.
In certain aspects, on Elm Street are at war with themselves. Several interesting ideas were introduced, but the filmmakers mostly stuck to the plot beats of the original film. In turn, the story is less exciting because we know where the movie is going. on Elm Street Nothing bold or original was done that might have changed the film. Killing is not fun. They’re clearly homages to the original films; however, they pale in comparison, especially with Johnny Depp getting eaten by his bed. Visually, the movie is actually impressive, despite the terrible CGI. Wes Craven’s version is by no means perfect. In fact, the ending, which ends with Kruger dragging Nancy’s mother through the door, isn’t particularly well executed, but the actual effect of the film is top-notch. The most effective kill was actually in the beginning, when Dean slit his throat. It’s a chilling scene that effectively establishes Freddy Krueger’s power and is the reboot’s most inventive kill, despite being a simple cut-throat. Best of all, the effect looks great, making the moment even more haunting and surreal. Chris’ death didn’t make any difference, as the obvious CGI spoiled a cool and scary moment in the original. Gwen’s death is also very cartoony. However, it’s definitely better than the original ending. all in all, on Elm Street Failed to add anything new to Freddy Kruger’s world. A few new ideas were introduced, but the biggest idea of making Kruger a pedophile actually got in the way of the film. If the reboot took some risks by deviating from the source material, it wouldn’t have been a bland remake like this and should have focused more on the main characters.
