birth and early life
The young entrepreneur’s birthday is November 16th. Born in 1993, he grew up in Bisam, a small town in Katak, Odisha. He goes to school in his hometown.
career
At the age of 13, Ritesh started his first project, traveling across the country just to analyze how the hotel system works. His parents wanted him to excel academically, but his talent was better than the average textbook demands. Traveling around the world has given him a wealth of experience.

The turning point: Software became his love
He is connected to computers and likes to play with them, looking for opportunities to make mistakes so he can learn new things. His keen interest and hunger for software continued to grow, and to quench his thirst, he borrowed programming books from his brother. In addition to some basic languages, such as Pascal, taught to him as a student, he also managed to learn other basic programming languages from Google himself.

In 2011, Ritesh made up his mind to move to Delhi and start his own business. He also prepared for the SAT to continue his studies in the US, but that never happened. An idea led him to meet the most basic needs of budget travelers. It’s really a destination for people looking for short- to medium-term rentals in bed and breakfast serviced apartments or private rooms.
3 million from risk nurseries
Over a period of time, he managed to secure Rs 300 crore funding from Venture Nursery, which effectively brought together a group of investors backed by a story to propel the startup forward. With the funds in his pocket, he managed to present his new idea at the Thiel Fellowship, a global competition for students under the age of 20. He won a monetary benefit.
OYO Room
Oyo means on your own. Ritesh can feel and understand the plight of people who travel to different places only to end up in bad or crappy places because of a lack of budget. So he created an online platform to get the thoughts and experiences of the social community about all the places they traveled in one platform. In 2013, he relaunched Oravel as the Oyo room.

With the company’s total monthly bill exceeding 10 crore, it’s all because of the idea of creating India’s largest standardized, efficient room scene, catering to different services and expectations at an unprecedented fair price.
Achievements and Awards
In 2013, he was named a Top 50 Entrepreneur by the TATA First dot Awards. In the same year, he was named one of the 8 hottest teen startup founders in the world by Business Insider. Received the TIE Luminous Entrepreneurial Excellence Award in 2014. The following year, he received the Business World Young Entrepreneur Award.
First Indian resident to win Thiel Scholarship
Ritesh becomes the first Indian resident to receive the Thiel Fellowship, considered a coveted scholarship.

He has consistently ranked in the top 10 Indian entrepreneurs in various categories and was named to Forbes’ list of 30 under 30 entrepreneurs in consumer technology at the age of 22.
