Sam Brooks looks back on 2020 and picks his top three ahead of January 2021 transfer window in full swing Tottenham Hotspur Football Club Performers over the years.
As 2020 draws to a close, it’s fair to say Tottenham Hotspur The year ended in much better shape than it started.
After a dismal start to the 2019/20 season, Tottenham attempted to save a Europa League berth in the second half of last season. They managed to do just that and started their current campaign.
It’s been a year for the club, from mediocre mid-tier to title contenders. But which players have played a key role in Spurs’ revival?
Tottenham’s top three players
Let’s take a look at my top three players of 2020 – in descending order…
3. Hugo Lloris
The Tottenham captain returned in late January 2020 after suffering a serious elbow injury against Brighton and Hove Albion in October.
The team has been struggling and their 3-0 loss on the south coast just added salt to the Frenchman’s wound.
Lloris’ form before the injury has been in doubt, with Paulo Gazzaniga waiting for his chance to impress.

However, the World Cup winner has been impeccable since his return. The consistent performance of the goalkeeper has been the main reason for Tottenham’s tightening at the back.
Spurs conceded just once in four games in November as they moved to the top of the standings. That game included clean sheets against Manchester City and Chelsea.
On 13 December, in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Lloris equalised with a free-kick from Ebereich Eze.
Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has called Loris “a slap in the face” despite critics from the France international Patrice EvraThe best goalkeeper in the Premier League“In the post-match press conference.
Overall, it’s fair to say that Lloris has responded to his criticism — and looked back at his best form of the season.
2. Son Heung-min
Son Heung-min is often seen by Spurs fans as a tireless staff member who always has a smile on his face.
However, this assessment fails to fully affirm his performance on the field. In 2020, Masayoshi Son took his game to new heights.
The winger was one of the few positives for the team in 2019/20, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in the league. Those numbers look set to improve this season.

The 28-year-old scored four goals against Southampton in September, followed by four against Manchester United, West Ham and Burnley.
His stellar performance at Tottenham earned him the Premier League Player of the Month award for October. His collaboration with Harry Kane was nothing short of blockbuster, and “Sonny” has to be on this list.
1. Harry Kane
No surprises here – but Harry Kane’s year could hardly have had a worse start. On Opening Day in 2020, he limped away with a hamstring injury that will likely keep him out for the rest of the season.
However, the coronavirus pandemic shut down football for three months and when the sport returned in June, Kane had recovered.
The striker ended the campaign in red-hot form. Brackets against Newcastle and Leicester hint at a big 2020/21 season ahead of him.

It turned out to be the case. Kane was primarily known as a goalscorer before this season, but he has developed into a full-fledged footballer.
He provided assists in five consecutive league games in September and October. His partnership with Son Heung-min has flourished as they try to keep Tottenham ahead.
Kane scores goals, assists and even willing to perform his defensive duties from set pieces. He should be recognized as the Spurs’ 2020 player of the year.
