Meet Robert from Euphoria
Robert Bennett is the father of Ru (Zandaya) in Happiness, by Bruce Wexler.
Robert married his wife Leslie Bennett and on September 14, 2001 Leslie gave birth to their daughter Rue. After Rue, the couple had another child named Gia, who we saw on the show as Rue’s sister. Tragically, Robert was diagnosed with cancer and when Lu was 14, he passed away.
Robert and Leslie realized Rue was having behavioral problems at an early age and decided to take her to a therapist. She was then diagnosed with OCD, ADHD and general anxiety. A few years later, when she was around 10 years old, Robert was diagnosed with an unknown disease, and when Rue was 11, he had a positive prognosis. That night, Lu had his first panic attack in bed. After admission, she was prescribed Valium; she became addicted to prescription drugs.
Rue, 13, takes care of her father every day after school because her mother is working overtime to pay for medical bills. Rue would sit in the hospital and play Candy Crush while her dad was still “Outrageous” notify. This led Rue to start taking some of her father’s Oxycontin to get high.
Robert appears in Season 2, Episode 4
In the final ten minutes of Season 2, Episode 4, Rue depicted her own funeral. Rue hugs the singer, and the person she hugs becomes her father, who tells her she’s a good person. Robert only appears in the flashback, but his presence certainly adds to Rue’s support as the guiding voice she needs to hear.
When the flashback ends, we see a picture of her in the room, hugging the air. Implying that it’s all in her head, she’s not overdosing like the first season.
