The first Test between India and England kicks off today in Chennai with the new faces of the Channel 4 Cricket Review team. This is the first live test of a terrestrial channel since England’s famous Ashes win in 2005. So who is the new signing? let’s see.
Channel 4 Cricket Review Team: New contract
The new members of the C4 team have a lot in common. In addition to being Knights of the Kingdom, Sir Andrew Strauss and Sir Alastair Cook are both former England captains and opening batsmen.
Strauss: From Captain to Manager
Strauss, 43, is a left-handed opener who played 100 Tests for England between 2004 and 2012 (Creek Information).
In 178 innings, he scored 7,037 points with an average of 40.9 and a high of 177. Strauss scored 21 centuries and 27 50s (Creek Information). He is ninth in England’s all-time scoring list.

Although best known for his testing career, Strauss also played 127 one-day internationals between 2003 and 2011. The 5-foot-11 hitter hit 4,205 runs with a 35.6 average and 80.9 batting average (Creek Information).
Strauss retired from all forms of cricket in August 2012, at the age of 35. He led England to victory at home and away as the country was crowned the world’s No. 1 team for the first time since the rankings were launched.
When retiring, Strauss told BBC: “I am very proud of what I have achieved as a cricketer. I have loved every minute.”
family tragedy
Strauss continued as director of the England and Wales Cricket Board in May 2015 but resigned in September 2018 when his wife Ruth was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer.
Sadly, Ruth Died in December 2018 at the age of 46. They have two sons, Sam and Luca.
Strauss, who was knighted last year, is a director of performance psychology firm Mindflick.
Cook: Still going strong
Cook, who replaced Strauss as England captain, was also a left-handed opener.We say yes because despite quitting international cricket in 2018, the 36-year-old remains committed to Play another season for his countyEssex.
During his England Test career, Cook scored an incredible 12,472 points in 161 games, with an average of 45.4 (Creek Information).
That made him the highest test run scorer in England’s history, weighing in at 33 tonnes and 57 during his illustrious international career. His highest score is 294 points.
Cook is also England’s most capped player. He is the youngest player to reach 12,000 runs – sixth overall and the only Briton.

Cook made his Test debut in India in 2006. He hit 60 on his debut and immediately showed his star status. 104 not out in the second game Drag England to an unlikely draw.
Cook holds another record for the number of times he has captained England – 59 Tests. He led his country to Ashes victories in 2013 and 2015 and continued to play after stepping down in February 2017.
When he stepped down, Cook told BBC“It is a privilege to play for England and I hope to continue as a Test player, to contribute as much as I can and to help the next England captain and team.”
In his final Test as the “only” opener, Cook faced India again at the Oval in September 2018. In typical Cook style, he scored 71 in the first game, followed by a flamboyant 147 to help England win by 118 (Creek Information).
Nicknamed “The Chef,” the 6-foot-2 hitter works as a farmer in his spare time.
Root: 100 on the 100th occurrence
Cook and Strauss witnessed another fine performance from the England captain as Joe Root scored 128 on the first day of testing in Chennai.
It was the captain’s third consecutive century and started in his 100th Test.
At the end of the game, England had 263 three-pointers. Dom Sibley went out with an 87 in the final match of the day, leaving Root limping with a cramp but still at the crease.
