‘It affected him’: Hoddle thinks he knows why Manchester City players are in poor form

Glenn Hoddle thinks Raheem Sterling may be struggling with form at Manchester City as he doesn’t play alongside a recognised striker Glen Hoddle Football Show podcast.
Sterling is going through an unusually difficult period for Manchester City, who suffered a surprise home loss to Leeds United on Saturday.
The 26-year-old has not scored in the Premier League since February and has made just two starts in his last seven games.
He played another blank at the weekend as Guardiola’s side failed to beat ten-man Leeds United.
Despite the glitch, Sterling remains the club’s joint-second top scorer with 13 goals this season, while only Kevin De Bruyne is ahead of him in assists.
However, his recent form does suggest a dip in his stellar career at the Etihad.
Sterling missing a striker
Hoddle believes he has some answers to Sterling’s misfortune, and it’s not just about the player’s own performance.
The former England boss said: “Maybe Sterling misses that centre-forward? Sometimes he’s been a centre-forward himself.

“(Manchester City) did it with De Bruyne, they did it with (Phil) Foden, they did it with all different types of players.
“Maybe (Sterling) prefers to have that centre-forward there. (Sergio) Aguero has been out for so long, maybe it’s a little bit of (Sterling) influence?”
Hoddle reminds everyone of Raheem’s talent
However, Hoddle still sees Sterling as a player, noting how good the winger has been since he signed from Liverpool for £49m (BBC Sport) in 2015.
Hoddle said: “(Sterling) has been so long, season after season, it’s impossible to be good again and again.
“He took a little hit, but I’m sure he’ll be fine again.
“He didn’t play bad, don’t get me wrong, he just didn’t affect the game the way he used to.
“He set such a high bar that sometimes it’s hard to keep it up.”
If Sterling can help City win an unprecedented four-peat, his struggles will be forgotten. Guardiola’s leagues, domestic cups and Champions League are still in the lead.
