Given that her “Wonderstruck” co-star Oakes Fegley is not deaf and plays a deaf character, her role in the “A Quiet Place” sequel has audiences wondering if Millicent Symonds is real deaf.
Who is Millicent Symonds?
Actress Millicent Symonds was born on March 6, 2003 and grew up in Bountiful, Utah, USA. She now lives in western Pennsylvania.
She was 12 when director Todd Haynes cast her shockedwhich follows two deaf children in two different timelines, 50 years apart.

“Because silence is beautiful and peaceful, and ASL is a beautiful language. I think hearing parents should learn sign language for their deaf children.”
Now, she advocates for deaf actors to play deaf roles
Symonds’ co-star in Wonderstruck — who, like her, plays a deaf character — isn’t deaf.
On relapse of hearing actors playing deaf roles, she told type In May, “I don’t think it’s realistic, it’s unfair to people who weren’t selected because of their disability. It doesn’t make sense to me.”

She also admires Bong Joon Ho’s Comment About “Overcoming the one-inch-tall caption barrier”.
“That’s what we need as deaf people. It’s so important to us. I don’t understand how hard it is to put text on the screen. There’s a lot of resistance around.”
