Is it true that Simone Biles isn’t allowed to get top marks?
👩🎤👗
Simone Biles is known for achieving goals previously thought unattainable—she created several moves and wowed audiences with her apparent invulnerability. But some, including Beals herself, believe the Olympic points system is being used against her. So how does the gymnastics team’s scoring work, isn’t Simone Biles not allowed to score the most?
How does gymnastics team scoring work?
A gymnast’s score includes an execution score (out of 10) and a starting value score. The latter depends on the difficulty of the move and is open ended.
This means that there is no longer such a thing as a true “perfect score”, as the starting value score varies from action to action.

The difficulty score includes the requirements and connection values for each element, as well as the difficulty of the move.
What is the difficulty level of Beers’ moves?
During the 2019 World Championships in Stuttgart, Simone Biles had a difficulty rating of consistently high than her competitors. Her movement difficulty is 6.0, compared to 5.4 or 4.8.
After performing on each machine, the gymnast will receive a total score. It’s a combination of their various difficulty levels on each device, the sequences they performed, and their execution scores for each performance.
Typically, the total score differs by a tenth of a point. In Stuttgart, Biles won by an even bigger margin.

How does the points system allegedly work against Beals?
Earlier this year, Byers became the first woman in history to play Yurchenko double hockey. The “double” part is misleadingHowever, “because she actually did three full flips during the vault” – writes Vox.
Named after Soviet gymnast Natalia Yurchenko in 1982, the move was considered “It’s so dangerous that no other woman has even tried it”. Yurchenko himself never did that in a game.
“But the judges have become conservative in their scores,” Vox quotes Dave Lease of The Skating Lesson as saying. They gave it a difficulty rating of 6.6. Meanwhile, Biles employs an expensive floor routine and performs it on the balance beam, which Lease describes as “truly incredible”.
Lease would give Biles about two-tenths higher move scores on both elements, Vox wrote. This means a difficulty level of 7.2.Bills himself told the New York Times In May, the scores were “too low they even knew”.
“But they don’t want the fields to be too far apart,” she said. “It’s just something on them. It’s none of my business.”
Does this mean that Simone Biles is not allowed to score the highest?
according to usa todayIn 2019, the International Gymnastics Federation did not rate Biles’ double twist and double dip under the beam.
The outlet wrote earlier this week that the IGF “does not want other gymnasts to try skills they can’t”. In other words, they accused her of being “better than everyone else.”
Byers told the outlet, “They kept asking us to do more difficult, provide more artistry, provide more difficult skills. So we did it, and then they didn’t believe it, and I don’t think it’s fair.”

“They had an open point code and now they’re pissed at people being too ahead and good”, Financial Times She was quoted as saying.
Given that since 2006, there has not technically been a “perfect score” to achieve, it is incorrect that Simone Biles does not allow a “highest” score. However, she and others felt she was being prevented from reaching the grades that should have belonged to her.
