Formula 1 is heading to a brand new street circuit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this weekend, but how many street circuits are there in F1? Which ones can return in 2022 after quitting due to the new crown epidemic?
The typical street circuit in F1 is Monaco.
Even if you’re only interested in F1 or not at all, chances are you’ve heard of the Monaco Grand Prix.
After all, if you’re a celebrity, the tiny principality will be there and seen on Grand Prix weekend.
Monaco was the first street race of the World Championship – in fact, it only hosted its second World Championship in 1950.
Others have come and gone over the years, including places like Detroit, Dallas and Phoenix, but how many street races are there in F1 now?
Which are on the 2021 calendar, and how many will there be in 2022?

Current F1 Street Races
Due to the pandemic, street racing has disappeared from the calendar for the first time since the 1950s in 2020.
Some return in 2021, while others are on the bench again until 2022.
During the season, there will be only three street races – the third in Saudi Arabia.
The first two races were won by Red Bull drivers.

Right by the sea, the 27-turn Saudi circuit will be the fastest street circuit in F1 – an honor from Baku.
It’s a 3.8-mile track with speeds in excess of 160 mph.
From Turn 17 to the final hairpin of Turn 27, it’s going to be a complete blast, with only one high-speed corner giving drivers trouble.
Grand Prix that could return in 2022
Including some street circuits, the 2019 calendar – the last “normal” calendar, has races in Australia, Canada and Singapore.
They are both scheduled to return in 2022, although Australia will not play in the traditional season opener, but in April.

This means that on the 2022 calendar, there will be six street circuits that F1 has participated in before, including Monaco, Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia.

But in 2022, there will be a total of seven street circuits on the F1 calendar, with an entirely new event added.
The Miami Grand Prix – a longstanding ambition of F1 owners – will finally take place on May 8.
Unlike the envisioned downtown Miami stadium, it will be around the Miami Dolphins NFL Stadium.
It’s part of F1’s expanding footprint in the US, and a third US race in Las Vegas may not be too far away.
