Daniel Sams says incredible knock behind Australian legend Ricky Ponting
👧👓⚡
Sydney Thunder all-rounder Daniel Sams applauds head coach Ricky Ponting’s Big Bash win against Brisbane Heat fox sports.
Sams’ fiery 65-point miss in seventh helped the Thunder beat the Brisbane Heat by four wickets and had seven balls to spare.
A victory for the Thunder looked unlikely in the reverse situation, but the 28-year-old Sams’ valour gave the Thunder their first win of the game.
Brisbane won the toss and opted to bat. Chris Lynn’s hard-earned 69 points on 44 shooting and Jake Wildemus’ 31 on 11 shooting helped the Heat reach a 178 on a 6-under 170 course.
The only positive for the Thunder was that they only scored seven points in the final inning.
The Thunder chase also started badly, with Wildemus taking three wickets in the first two rounds. And, just as the Alex Rose and Baxter Holt partnership was thriving, the Thunder lost two hitters and only had one mountain to climb.

Enter Australian all-rounders Ben Cardin and Daniel Sams. The scorecard says 62 balls are needed for 99 runs with only 5 wickets in hand.
In the Thunder’s last game, Sams was under enormous pressure after scoring the Golden Duck against the Melbourne Renegades.
Honestly, up until this game, Sams’ batting performance had been poor. He made only 243 runs and averaged an 8.1 (Creek Information). Still, the 28-year-old made the most of the opportunity.
Cutting and Sams forged 69 partnerships with 40 balls. When Cutting died, Sams went on to score a dismal 65 points from 25 balls to knock the Thunder down to the victory line.
The knocks included three fours and seven sixes as Sams was declared the man of the game.
In his postgame speech, Sams told Fox Sports: “I don’t want to get another duck — I want to get to the bottom of it. I’ve been working with Pontin to clear the border.”
If the knock on the door indicated one thing, it was that Pontin’s training worked wonders for Sams. He did a good job of showing off a clean bat with everything coming off the flesh of the bat. Ponting can certainly bring out the best out of the Thunder’s players.
