Rio Ferdinand is a little wary that Trent Alexander-Arnold could move into midfield later in his Liverpool career, he talks BT Sport.
Alexander-Arnold started the Reds’ 0-0 Champions League draw with Real Madrid last night, meaning they suffered a 3-1 aggregate defeat.
The 22-year-old’s possession has left many wondering if he will move into midfield at a later date.
Ferdinand feels pressure in midfield
Ferdinand touched on the topic and weighed the pros and cons of Alexander-Arnold.
The former England defender said: “I understand the calls for him to play in midfield.

“But at the same time, when he has the ball, he only has people from the left as pressure.
“When you’re in midfield, you get pressure from the whole 360. So, it’s a different kind of pressure.
“He’s always facing up in the game (right-back) and can see things. (In midfield) you have to catch the ball with your back to play. Playing in midfield is a completely different dynamic.”
Alexander-Arnold relax
One of the biggest criticisms of Alexander-Arnold is usually his defensive ability.
The theory of playing him in midfield is less defensive responsibility and more touches on the ball.

Liverpool need a new life
Jurgen Klopp’s current midfield could change significantly as Georginio Wijnaldum’s Merseyside future remains up in the air.
Thiago is 30 recently and James Milner is 35, which means they won’t be around forever. Jordan Henderson is also 30 years old.
Curtis Jones represents the next generation, and alongside Alexander-Arnold, there could be two Scors playmakers in the Liverpool engine room.
There’s still a long way to go before we get to that stage, but it will be an interesting experiment to see Alexander-Arnold in midfield.
