Alfonso Ribeiro plays key role in IndyCar Laguna Seca race
Ribeiro, who will turn 50 on Sept. 21, took part in the penultimate race of the 2021 IndyCar season in Laguna Seca on Sunday.
Before 29 cars hit the road, he was given two important jobs in the pre-race ceremony.
The New York City native sang the national anthem before waving the green flag.
He also ordered drivers to start their engines for the formation lap before the rolling start of the 95-lap race.

The former Haas driver’s late charge to the front was stopped after a minor collision with NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson on the corkscrew.
Both were able to keep going, although Grosjean didn’t have the speed to catch up with Hertha and Palau after contact.
Grosjean, still in contention for Rookie of the Year, trailed Scott McLaughlin by 20 points before the final game.
