Alan Hale, Jr. (born Alan Hale McCahan, March 8, 1921 – January 2, 1990) was an American actor and restaurateur. He is the son of character actor Alan Hale Sr.His TV career spanned 4 years, but is best known for his co-starring roles in the 1960s series gilligan i.. He has also appeared in some talk shows and variety shows.

Alan Hale MacKahan was born on March 8, 1921 in Los Angeles, California. His father was character actor Rufus Edward McKahan, stage name Alan Hale (1892-1950), and his mother was silent film actress Gretchen Hartman (1897-1979). His father appeared in more than 235 films and had a successful screen career, both as a leading actor in silent films and as a supporting role in sound films. Hale, Jr. appeared in silent movies as a child.
During World War II, Hale served in the U.S. Coast Guard. After his father’s death in 1950, “Junior” was dropped from his name.

Hale reprised the role of Captain in three TV movies, Rescue from Gilligan’s Island (1978), castaways on gilligan’s island (1979), and The Harlem Globetrotter on Gilligan’s Island (1981). He also voiced the captain in two cartoon versions of the series, Gilligan’s new adventure From 1974 to 1977 and gilligan’s planet From 1982 to 1983.
