Sen Ming (Sen Zhang, Akira Mori(born July 12, 1936) is Chairman of Mori Trust, a Tokyo-based real estate developer and an offshoot of Mori Building, a company founded by his father Daikichiro Mori in 1959. Forbes He was estimated to be the fourth-richest person in Japan as of 2013, with a net worth of around $5 billion.
He attended Keio University, graduated in 1960 and joined Yasuda Trust Bank (now part of Mizuho Trust Bank). He officially joined Mori Building in 1972 as an employee.
After his father died in 1993, he and his older brother, Minoru Mori, inherited the family business and parted ways after a falling out in 1999. Akira was in charge of the Mori Trust, while his brother was in charge of the rest of the Mori Building company until his death on March 8, 2012. Mori Trust owns and operates 67 buildings and manages 89 buildings, including office and residential buildings, mainly in central Tokyo and other major cities in Japan. These include the Tokyo Shiodome Building in the business district near Tokyo Bay, and about 30 hotels including the Conrad Tokyo. In 2013, as Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was implementing economic reforms, he expressed interest in expanding the company’s real estate portfolio in Tokyo.
Akira Mori chose his only daughter, Miwako Date, who took over the Mori Trust business in 2016 as president of Mori Trust Hotels & Resorts. Akira Mori is currently Chairman of the Mori Trust Board of Directors.
