About Albertito Luque: Spanish footballer (1978-)
Albert Luke Matos (born 11 March 1978) is a retired Spanish footballer who played as a left winger or striker.
His 14-year career was mainly linked to Mallorca and Deportivo, and he played a total of 248 La Liga games in 11 seasons, scoring 61 goals. He has also played for Newcastle United in England and Ajax in the Netherlands.
As a Spain international in the first half of the 2000s, Luke represented his country in one World Cup and one European Championship.
club career
Mallorca
Born in Terrassa in Barcelona, Catalonia, Luke was a lifelong supporter of FC Barcelona and started playing football during a trial with them, but was released by the C-team when he was 19. He was then brought in by RCD Mallorca and assigned to their reserves, but eventually broke into the main line-up after a successful loan spell at the club Malaga.
In the 2000-01 season, Luke scored 9 goals for Mallorca, helping the Balearic Islands to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in history after finishing third. His extra-time goal against HNK Hajduk Split in the third qualifying round took the team to the first stage of the group stage.
A Coruña

Ajax

He opened his scoring record from the bench in a 4-2 home win over CA Osasuna on 30 November 2008, and was at the club fighting for UEFA Cup qualification until the final days of the season.
On July 30, 2009, after a long negotiation, Málaga signed Luke from Ajax on a free transfer. Playing mostly from the bench under new coach Juan Ramon López Muniz, he scored just once in the first half before being eliminated for nearly a month; Duda was replaced in the 85th minute to help Sporting Santander win 3-0.
In the 2010-11 season, Luke continued to miss Málaga’s squad, either under Jesualdo Ferreira or his successor, Manuel Pellegrini. In December 2010, he was deemed out of order along with five other players and was released on January 4, 2011.
International career
Luke represented Spain at the 2000 Summer Olympics and twice won a silver medal with the national team in Sydney. Still out of the senior team after a successful season in Mallorca, he was called up for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he won 3-2 in the group stage against South Africa on 12 June 2002 He made his debut in the round of 16 win over the Republic of Ireland.
Two years later, Luke played at Euro 2004 as a left-winger in a 1-0 loss to hosts Portugal. His last match was on September 7, 2005, in the 2006 World Cup qualifier against Serbia and Montenegro.
On April 29, 2019, Luke joined the staff of Luis Rubiales, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
