albert leberg (Montfort-sur-Risle, February 1, 1849 – Rouen, January 6, 1928), birth name albert marie lebergis also called albert-charles leberg and charles albert lebergwas a French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist landscape painter of the Rouen School (Rouen Academy). A member of the Society of French Artists, he worked actively in a bright Impressionist style, creating more than 2,000 landscapes in his lifetime. The artist was represented by Galerie Mancini in Paris in 1896, by: Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in 1899 and 1910, by Galerie Paul Rosenberg in 1903 and 1906, and by Galerie Georges Petit in 1918 and 1923.
early life
Albert Lebourg initially studied at the Évreux Lycée and was interested in architecture, entering the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen at an early age.He studied art with him Gustave Maureen l’Academie de peinture et de dessins in Rouen. After that, the artist briefly became a student of Jean-Paul Laurens. In 1876, Le Boule exhibited his work for the first time on the Boulevard Montmartre with artists such as Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and others. After being noticed by art collector Laurent Laperlier in Rouen, Lebourg was appointed professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Algiers. There he met Jean Seignematin, who inspired him to bring more clarity and light to his paintings. Lebourg married in 1873 and remained in Algiers until the summer of 1877 when he resigned from teaching and returned to Paris with many paintings of castles, mosques and the Admiralty.
Profession
In the 4th Impressionist Exhibition in 1879, Le Boule exhibited 30 works together with Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro and Edgar Degas, showing paintings created in Algiers and sketches. At the Fifth Impressionist Exhibition, or 1880, he exhibited 20 works depicting Rouen, Paris and Algiers. In 1883, he named his work Matinée à DieppeIn 1887 he exhibited at the famous Les XX exhibition, with Walter Sickert, Camille Pissarro, Berthe Morisot and Georges-Pierre Seurat, who attended the opening with Seurat and Signac.The main work on display is that of Seurat Sunday afternoon on the island of La Grande Jatte.

Lebourg has stayed busy in all four seasons of Rouen and Paris and its surrounding Seine animation scene. He painted energetically in the Auvergne, Normandy, and Ile-de-France, eventually settling in Puteaux, where he stayed from 1888 to 1895, using his Parisian surroundings to paint what he thought was his best work . He wrote at the time:
“I would often paint on the banks of the Seine: Nanterre, Rueil, Chatou, Bougival, Port-Marly. These are the sources of themes and very beautiful landscapes”. (Lebourg)
From 1893 he was a member of the Society of French Artists.
Lebourg moved to the Netherlands in 1895, where he stayed for two years. He exhibited at the Mancini Gallery in Paris and won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition (1900). In 1903, a retrospective was held at the Paul Rosenberg Museum, 21 rue de la Boétie, Paris, showing 111 works. Although his fame was firmly established in 1910, he continued to exhibit at the Salon every year. Another retrospective was held in Paris in 1918.
In the home of an Impressionist art collector Francois Debord (1853-1920), Le Boule had the opportunity to have many conversations with Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet and Robert Antoine Pincho, an artist who greatly admired him.
On November 13, 1909, the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Rouen held an exhibition of 52 paintings: thirteen by Lebourg, three by Monet, nine by Sisley, One by Renoir, three by Armand Guillaumin, five by Joseph Delattre, two by Charles Frechon and four by Robert Antoine Pinchon . In 1918, in the same museum, Lebourg exhibited with Bonnard, Boudin, Camoin, Cross, Guillaumin, Luce, Matisse, Monet, Signac and Vuillard and Pinchon.
He suffered a stroke in September 1920, which left him paralyzed on the left side of his body. Nevertheless, he remarried in February 1921. A full catalogue of 2,137 works was organized that year and published in 1923 to critical acclaim from the press.
He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor on June 27, 1903, and an Officer of the Legion of Honor on April 22, 1924
Albert Lebourg died in Rouen on January 7, 1928. Lebourg’s works are exhibited in particular at the Musée d’Orsay, Petit-Palais and Carnavalet in Paris, as well as in the museums of Bayonne, Clermont-Ferrand, Le Havre, Dunkirk, Lille, Strasbourg, Sceaux It is Rouen at the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Rouen (collection of François Depeaux).
