Zakir Khan is an Indian musician, stand-up comedian, author, poet and YouTuber. He came into the limelight after winning Comedy Central’s ‘Best Stand-Up Comedian in India’ competition in 2012. He is one of the most popular stand-up comedians in India.

Zakir Khan was born on Thursday 20 August 1987 (Age 32; same as 2019) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Leo. His family originated in Rajasthan.
He attended St Paul’s High School in Indore. After finishing school, Zakir signed up for B.Com, but dropped out during that time. Sharing the incident, Zakir said,
Yaar, College mein rehne ka koi matlab nahi tha. Course humming attend karte nahi the, aur degree se jyada apni khwahisho se pyaar tha. “
Born into a family with a musical background, Zakir developed an interest in music at an early age. He studied music under the guidance of his father and grandfather. After dropping out of college, Zakir studied for a sitar diploma. He wanted to be a radio producer and for that he moved to Delhi. There, he did a year of radio programming at ARSL before moving to Jaipur for an internship in 2009. After completing his internship, Zakir returned to Delhi.

Zakir Khan belongs to muslim family. His father Ismail Khan was a music teacher at San Rafael School in Indore. His mother, Kulsum Khan, was a housewife. He has two brothers, Zeeshan Khan (Malang-The Band’s lead singer) and Arbaz Khan (student). He is the grandson of veteran Indian classical instrumentalist and singer Ustad Munuddin Khan.
Profession
While in Delhi, Zakir experimented with different fields, from theatre to broadcasting. Ultimately, he worked as a contributor and principal researcher at HT Media Ltd. He worked there for about 4 years. Later, his roommate Vishwas encouraged him to make an open mic. Slowly, he started performing in cafes and people started to like his jokes. Gradually, his performance began to receive a standing ovation. He was then called to Mumbai to write the script for the news comedy show “On Air with AIB”.
Zakir rose to fame in 2012 after winning Comedy Central’s “Best Indian Standup Comedian”. He was praised for his comedic style on NDTV Prime’s “Comedy Rising Stars.” He subsequently became popular for his quip “Sakht Launda”, which meant a man with great self-control who wouldn’t be easily manipulated by pretty, cunning girls.
In 2015, he wrote and co-hosted the news comedy show “On Air with AIB.” The show was broadcast on Star World in India. Some of his popular comedy shows include “Trading Post” (2014), “Promising Game” (2017), “Haq Se Single” (2017) and “Chacha Vidhayak Hain Hamare” (2018).
In September 2017, Zakir served as a mentor for season five of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, judged by Akshay Kumar. He also appeared as one of the judges on Amazon Prime’s “Comicstaanββ Season 2”.
He even co-hosted the 5th annual Golden Carat Awards with other famous comedians such as Vir Das and Papa CJ.

Facts/trivia
- In an interview, Zakir revealed that his family has a long history with music. He said,
I come from a family with a 300-year history of music. Even a 9-to-5 job was unorthodox for my parents. “
- Zakir attributes the success of his life to his father.
- Surprisingly, at one point, Zakir and another AIB comedian, Abish Mathew, were radio hosts on different stations.
- His family was reportedly unhappy with his decision to drop his studies and pursue a career in broadcasting. So, in response to the tension, Zakir stopped taking money from his family and falsely claimed he had a job.
- While in Jaipur, Zakir worked odd jobs to support his day-to-day expenses.
- Apparently, when Zakir left Jaipur, he had no money to pay the rent. At the time, his landlord wrote it off and gave him some money to get him back to Delhi.
- In an interview, Zakir shared his experience of being bullied as a child. His classmates made fun of his skin color and appearance, events that emboldened him and helped him use humor as a shield.
- According to Zakir, he is a very lazy person.

He further added,
Live comedy is very different from what you see on TV. Live shows are like telling jokes to your friends, but on TV, jokes have to go through a lot of scrutiny…but Gutthi is still better than everyone else. Kapil Sharma’s comedy is based on insults. It’s very Punjabi. Tu mota hai, tu kaala hai, tere daant kharab hain – that’s their joke, I don’t find it funny. ”
- According to Zakir, if not a comedian, he would be a music teacher.
- He shared in an interview that his dream project was to design an agricultural curriculum for teenagers to develop their personalities.
