Sumit Antil is an Indian Paralympic athlete and javelin thrower best known for winning a gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. He threw the javelin from a distance of 68.55 meters in the final, breaking the world and personal records three times.

Sumit Antil was born on Monday 6 July 1998 (23 years old; as of 2021), Khewra, Sonipat, Haryana. His zodiac sign is Gemini. After completing his studies, Sumit attended Ramjas College in Delhi to obtain a Bachelor of Commerce degree. During his school days, he wanted to pursue a career in wrestling; however, after losing a leg in an accident at the age of seventeen, he had to give up this dream. When he came back from a make-up class, he had an accident and a tractor loaded with cement hit him. Sumit was immediately taken to a military hospital for surgery, where doctors had to amputate his leg. After two months of bed rest, Sumit traveled to a prosthetics centre in Pune to get a prosthesis.

Sumit Antil was still in high school when he wanted to pursue a career in wrestling, but in 2015 he had to change course for his future after an accident. In 2017, he was introduced to disabled athletes by a disabled athlete in the village. Sumit was introduced to Delhi’s coach Naval Singh, who persuaded Sumit to choose javelin throwing as his sport. After the injury, Sumit did not do any sports for a long time. So he started strength training and endurance building. Despite all the problems, Sumit has been trying to improve his performance, and the results are starting to come. He finished second at the 2019 Indian Open National Para Athletics Championships in Bangalore. On his international debut, he finished fifth at the 2018 Jakarta Asian Paralympic Games.

- When Sumit Antil was 7 years old, his father died of a long-term illness. After that, his mother took care of him and his sister.
- Initially, Sumit had a lot of problems with his workout routine, as his prosthetic leg pads would get full of blood and sweat due to overheating. However, Sumit has been practicing and improving his performance during the competition. In an interview, Navy Singh said:
When I first met Sumit, I had to give him a lot of motivation. He wanted to be a wrestler, but that career path wasn’t possible at that time. Sumit has good height and physique. He is 6-foot-2 and has a good build. I know if I work for him, he can work miracles. I managed to convince him to switch to the javelin and he started training under me. “

He won his first silver medal at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai. He threw the javelin to a distance of 62.88 meters, breaking his personal distance record.
