Sofia Carmina Coppola was born in New York City on May 14, 1971, by then-legendary filmmakers Thomas and Eleanor Coppola. She grew up on the family farm in Rutherford, near California. Coppola’s ancestry includes Italian, Lucanian and Neapolitan.
Coppola attended St. Helena High School in the St. Helena Unified School District in California, graduating in 1989. She went on to attend Mills College and later completed her studies at the California Institute of the Arts.
