Sirisha Bandla was born in 1987 (Age 34; as of 2021) in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, India. She grew up in Houston, Texas.

She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Aerospace, Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering (2006-2011) from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. She has since pursued an MBA (2012-2015) at George Washington University in Washington, DC, USA. Sirisha has been decisive about her ideas from an early age and has always been determined to achieve them. Bandla has been curious about flying from a very young age and embarked on her first flying adventure alone when she was four years old. Her grandfather said in an interview,
At the age of four, she traveled alone to the United States, where her parents and sister lived. Although we know the people who accompany her, they are unfamiliar to her. She is not afraid to fly alone. She is excited. “
He further said,
We don’t know how she got interested in airplanes, stars, and the sky. It has been in her heart since childhood. What she has achieved today is her own will, and her parents have given her full freedom to pursue her dreams. She has proven her excellence and stepped up. “

Sirisha started her career as a design, test and analysis collaborator at ATA Engineering. She worked there for about three years before joining L-3 Communications Integrated Systems as a mechanical engineer. In 2012, she became Deputy Director of Space Policy at the Commercial Space Federation (CSF), the industry association for space companies.

She has since worked at Virgin Orbit as Business Development and Government Affairs Manager and Washington Operations Director. Third Indian woman to fly into space
Indian-born aerospace engineer Sirisha Bandla joined British billionaire Richard Branson on Virgin Galactic’s first full-crew suborbital test flight from New Mexico on July 11, 2021, making her the third person to fly in Indian women in space. After a 90-minute delay due to bad weather, the space plane took off for a 1.5-hour mission over New Mexico. A few days before the flight, Bandera shared her excitement about flying into space. she says,
