Shubham Gupta was born on Wednesday 11 August 1993 (Age 28; as of 2021) in Jaipur. His zodiac sign is Leo. He goes to primary school in Jaipur. After Shubham completed Lesson 7, due to financial constraints, his family moved to Dahanu Road, a small village in Maharashtra. He then attended Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul in Wapichara, where he completed Lesson 12 (2012).

During his school days, Shubham assisted his father in a shoe shop in Maharashtra after school. After completing Lesson 12, he moved to Delhi to pursue his studies at the Shri Ram School of Business in Delhi. However, he was unable to get into that university. He studied for a BA in Economics at Delhi College of Arts and Business (2012-2015). He has since pursued a Master of Economics (2015-2017) at the Delhi School of Arts and Business, University of Delhi.

Shubham took the UPSC exam for the first time in 2015 but failed the preliminary exam. In 2016, he tried again and passed all three exams – Prelims, Mains and Interview. He was placed 366th and placed under the Audit and Accounting Services of India. However, he was not satisfied with his ranking, and when he was still in training, Shubham reappeared in the 2017 exam but failed. In 2018, Shubham took the exam for the fourth time and achieved All India Ranking (AIR) 6.

After finishing 366th in the second UPSC attempt of the 2017 batch, Shubham was placed at the National Institute of Auditing and Accounting in Shimla as a trainee officer.

He completed his training in December 2018. He then worked as an Assistant Accountant in Jaipur, Rajasthan from December 2018 to August 2019. Shubham achieved AIR 6 in his fourth UPSC exam and became an IAS officer Maharashtra cadre for the 2019 batch.

In August 2019, he joined Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration as a cadet officer and was subsequently appointed as an assistant collector in Nasik (Government of Maharashtra) in May 2020.

- Shubham enjoys collecting and reading non-fiction books, biographies and autobiographies in his spare time.
- He is good at sports and enjoys watching and playing sports such as cricket and tennis.
- In an interview, Shubham shared that during his difficult times, driving was like a stress buster for him.
- Shubham was motivated to become an IAS officer when he was on shift 5. Speaking about this in an interview, he said,
I am on the fifth standard. My father came to me and said he wanted me to be a collector one day. So, I asked him “Who is the collector?”. I was so impressed with that event, and when I entered the 11 standard, I realized that my desire to become an IAS officer would help me achieve my goals. “
- When Shubham was a teenager, his family moved to a small village in Maharashtra. At that time, there was no Hindi or English secondary school in his village. As he is new to Maharashtra, he found it very difficult to study in Marathi school. So, his father made Shubham and his sister study at Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul in Wapichara, far from where they lived. Shubham and his sister used to take the train to school and home.
- Shubham has been a studious since childhood and never compromised on his studies. Even when he looked after his father’s bookstore as a student, Shubham used to bring books to the store and study there in his free time.
- After Gupta got good grades on his 10th grade exams, his friends and teachers advised him to pursue science further. However, he developed an interest in business and decided to pursue it.
- His role model was his father. Speaking of his father in an interview, Shubham said,
My role model is my father because he fought a lot in his life. Many times, he faced financial crises and hit rock bottom, but he still managed to recover and bring balance to our lives. His ‘never give up spirit’ really inspired me a lot. “
