Shashank Keitan is a Bollywood film director and writer for the Indian Hindi film industry, best known for writing and directing Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) Khaitan was born in Kolkata and in Maharashtra Nasik in Trabant grew up in the Marwari business family. In 2008, Khaitan played Manohar in the 22-minute drama Roorkee By-Pass, directed by Arundhati Sen Verma, and helped film Subhash Ghai’s Black & White. Khaitan joined Whistling Woods International College to break into the film industry.
His upcoming film “Dadak” will be released on July 6, 2018. He thanked the academy for providing him with a technical background, and also thanked the academy staff for inviting students to accompany them on filming and making him feel comfortable on set. While at Whistling Woods, Khaitan made his first attempt at film Sherwani Kahaan Hai with some of his classmates at Whistling Woods, but the film was not successfully completed.

Khaitan was born in Kolkata and grew up in a Malvari business family in Nashik, Maharashtra. Although he was interested in watching movies from an early age, he initially preferred sports, playing cricket and tennis. At 17, he decided to pursue a career in entertainment. He started out as a dance instructor and held events across the country. He soon moved to Mumbai and he knew his dream would become a reality.
Khaitan entered the film industry by joining Whistling Woods International Academy, a film school founded and supported by veteran film director Subhash Ghai. He thanked the academy by giving him a technical background, and thanked the faculty at the academy (who actively work in the film industry) for making him feel comfortable on set by inviting students to accompany them. While at Whistling Woods, Khaitan made his first attempt at film Sherwani Kahaan Hai with some of his classmates at Whistling Woods, but the film was not successfully completed.
In 2008, Khaitan played Manohar in the 22-minute drama Roorkee By-Pass, directed by Arundhati Sen Verma, and assisted on Subhash Ghai’s Black & White and Yuvvraaj. He also made a brief appearance on Disney’s ABCD 2 starring Varun Dhawan, the sequel to the dance drama ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, in which he played one of the World Dance Championship qualifying judges in Bangalore.
He previously made an appearance in Yash Raj Films’ Habib Faisal’s romantic action film Ishaqzaade, which marked Arjun Kapoor’s debut. Khaitan is seen playing Dharma Chauhan, one of Parma Chauhan’s two brothers, played by Kapoor.

Film – Career
The original plan for Khaitan with Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania was to make it a tale of two liars, similar to Bunty Aur Babli. However, as he was writing the script, he found that the characters became sweeter than he expected and fell in love. Khaitan cited Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) and Casablanca as inspirations for his script, and the film pays homage to DDLJ and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
Khaitan believes that Bollywood hasn’t created a great love story since Jab We Met, and he strives to make the characters more real and grounded while conveying a grand love story. Critics said the film continued some Bollywood clichés, such as parental approval, which he said reflected that Indian society had not changed much since DDLJ was produced.

After completing the first draft of the script, Khaitan sent it to Dharma Productions, titled Humpty Sharma Di Love Story. Karan Johar read the script, said he liked it, and said Dharma Productions would make the film, but he wasn’t sure if Keitan would direct it. Khaitan made some improvements to the script, and Johar decided to let Khaitan direct.
This is different from Dharma’s precedent, where most directors are people who have previously worked as assistant directors or assistant producers. Khaitan chose the film after watching Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt perform at the Student of the Year. One of the goals of Khaitan’s shooting was to “keep it real” and make sure all the characters were fully prepared before shooting the scene. The film was released in July 2014 and was a box office success.
