In the summer of 2012, Naikoo asked him for rupees, according to his father, Asadullah. 7,000 people applied for admission to a graduate university in Bhopal, and he disappeared from his home on May 21, 2012, when Asadullah and his wife went to evening prayers after arranging a chicken meal for dinner. Asadullah said,
After praying, I couldn’t find him. I think he must have gone to see his cousin, but he didn’t come back. “
Asadullah added that they made several attempts to call him but his phone was switched off. On 6 June 2012, the police told Asadullah that Naikoo had joined the Hezbollah jihad. According to reports, after Naigu disappeared, his home was searched by police several times. His father Asadullah told reporters,
Our home has been raided at least 30-40 times since 2012. Most of the time we were beaten. My wife has been beaten in the past too, especially the last time the police came. They broke our refrigerator, rice cooker and radio. Even threw our clothes away. ”
According to Naikoo’s uncle, Ghulam Qadir, J&K police once raided Naikoo’s house and sprayed Musa’s name (Hizbul Mujahideen’s terrorist) on it.
Join Hezbollah Mujahideen
By the time Riyaz Naikoo joined Hizbul Mujahideen in 2012, it was led by 21-year-old Burhan Wani; the most charismatic face of the mujahideen generation.
Naikoo became a close associate of Burhan Wani, who went on to become a key member of the banned terrorist group in the valley. There, he became a close aide to many of Varney’s confidantes, including Saddam Pader.
Burhan Wani’s successor
Zakir Rashid Bhat, alias Zakir Musa, 21, succeeded Burhan Wani and took command of operations in the south after Burhan Wani encountered security forces in Bumdoora village in the Kokernag district of southern Kashmir on 8 July 2016. Shortly after taking over from Burhan Wani, Musa began delivering off-key notes through video releases. In such a video message, Moussa said,
Islam does not allow nationalism and democracy. When we pick up stones or guns, we should not fight for Kashmir with this intention. The only motive should be for the supremacy of Islam in order to establish Sharia law here. “
In another video message in May 2017, Musa said that if any Hurriyat leaders stood in the way of his establishment of Islamic rule in Kashmir, he would cut off their heads and hang them in Lal, Srinagar Chowk. News did not go well for Hizbul Mujahideen’s senior commanders, who did not support his claims. Amid rumours that Musa will leave the group and join a new group called Ansar Ghawzat-Ul-Hind, it is Riyaz Naikoo who rose to command the Hezbollah jihad and became Musa’s successor . Regarding Naikoo’s rise in Hizbul Mujahideen, a senior intelligence official once said in an interview –
While Musa was partly responsible for his loss of popularity in the South, Naigu’s leadership skills and ability to connect his colleagues and subordinates prevailed. He may not have said anything about other militant groups operating in southern Kashmir, but he has managed to bring his own group together. “
It was with the help of Altaf Dar alias Altaf Kachroo that Naikoo rose to the ranks of Hizbul Mujahideen, according to a senior intelligence official. Because Kachroo is very close to the Hizb leader Syed Salahudeen. Following Kachroo’s encounter with security forces in August 2018, Naikoo’s advance in the valley has become a daunting task.
