Parakala Prabhakar is an Indian politician, political economist, political commentator, social worker and TV presenter. He is the husband of Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India in 2019.

Parakala Prabhakar was born on January 2, 1959 (age 60; same as 2019) in Nasapuram, Andhra Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Capricornus. Parakala received his primary education at the Lakshminarasamamba Municipal School in Narasapuram and then attended the People’s High School in Himayatnagar, Hyderabad. Prabhakar received his high school education at Nampally Junior College in Hyderabad and Sri YN College in Narasapuram. He graduated from Andhra Loyola College in Vijayawada and then went to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi to pursue his Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Philology (M.Phil.).After that, Parakara went to London School of Economics (LSE) to complete his Ph.D.. He presented a paper entitled “Security Doctrine and Foreign Policy Behavior: A Study of Brazil, Ghana, and Indonesia”. Prabhakar completed his thesis under the supervision of Christopher Coker of the International Relations Department.

Prabhakar was born into a family with a political background and was familiar with electoral politics from an early age. However, he only got into politics when he was elected by the National Students Union of India (NSUI) as president of the student body of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). In 1984, he was appointed as the vice-chairman of the All India Party Central Committee, and successively went to many states and universities to organize the activities of the National Congress Party Student Union. In 1986, Prabhakar moved to London for further studies. On his return from London, he was appointed by Narasimha Rao as a “Special Mission Officer” in charge of the implementation of the “Rajiv Gandhi National Institute for Youth Development (RGNIYD)” project. He resigned from RGNIYD in 1994 and contested the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections. Prabhakar lost the election by 20,000 votes.
In 1996, he ran for the Lok Sabha by-election in the Nassapuram parliamentary constituency and narrowly lost. Party disputes led him to withdraw from Congress. In 1997, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He ran for the Lok Sabha election in 1998 from the Narasapur constituency and lost again. Parakara was actively involved in party affairs, becoming the spokesperson of the Andhra Pradesh party. He became a member of the BJP National Economy Group, which directed the party’s economic policy, and a member of the Working Group of the Indian Planning Commission, which formulated the Tenth Five-Year Plan.

In 2006, he participated in the general election for the East and West Godavari constituencies, losing for the fourth time. He then resigned from the BJP. In 2008, some like-minded people approached him to start a new political platform. Chiranjeevi is the face of the party. Prabhakar supported the idea and formed the “Prajajyam Party”. Paracalla was one of the party’s founding general secretaries and spokespersons. The party finally won just 18 seats in the 2009 parliamentary elections, marking the end of Balakara’s electoral political career.

In June 2014, Prabhakar was appointed communications advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government. As a communications consultant, he established a communications network for the state. He has also introduced social media to various branches of government. Prabhakar resigned on June 19, 2018, after serving the government for about four years. In his resignation, he said he was distressed by the opposition leader’s remarks and did not want the government to be questioned.

- Following the 2009 Legislative Assembly elections, Tamil actor and producer Naga Babu described Prabhakar as a “snake” and accused him of betraying Chiranjeevi’s trust in him. According to him, it was Prabhakar who ruined the polling prospects of the Praja Rajyam party ahead of the 2009 general election.
