Ojinika Obiekwe is an American Emmy Award-winning anchor and journalist. She currently works as an entertainment, storytelling and lifestyle reporter for PIX11 News. Ojika moved from Nigeria to the United States at the age of 16 for a college education. In 2001, just before she graduated, a chance meeting brought her to intern at the WPIX channel in New York.
Sixteen years later, she is a mission editor, producer/journalist. Currently, she is an entertainment anchor. Her achievements so far have been a dream come true. Just before she graduated, Ojinika had the opportunity to intern at Very Own WPIX in New York. Sixteen years later, she’s transformed from an assignment editor to a producer/journalist and now an entertainment anchor. Ojinika knew she wanted to be a reporter since high school, but never dreamed of being a print reporter.
She wanted to graduate and start writing for some papers, but luckily fate took its course and Ojinika ended up where she is now, and honestly, she couldn’t think of a career she would prefer. The best part of Ojinika’s job is that she loves what she does and she’s very good at it, but in doing so, Ojinika also realizes that she can reach a lot of people, a lot of people, especially women, not just in Nigeria, But the entire African continent, and hopefully all over the world.
On camera, her authentic energy radiates through feature stories, bringing her audiences the latest and greatest in products, places and people. Ojinika knew that after receiving a scholarship from the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in 2007, her next move would be to be on camera.
She was given the opportunity to report in Senegal, Oguinica’s first opportunity to be a journalist. After that article on her trip to Senegal aired, Ojinika only knew that she was where she was supposed to be, doing what she was supposed to do, counting her blessings every day.
