Geeta Phogat was born on Thursday 15 December 1988 as “Geeta Kumari Phogat” (30; same as 2018) in the village of Barali in Haryana. Her zodiac sign is Sagittarius.

Geeta Phogat made her international wrestling debut in 2009 at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Jalandhar, Punjab, where she won a gold medal. defeated Emily Bensted from Australia 1-0, 7-0; she won India’s first gold medal in women’s wrestling at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Previously, the WFI had issued a Reason for Performance Notice to wrestlers who did not appear at the training camps held in Lucknow and Sonepat from May 10 to 25, 2018. But after Geeta gave a reasonable explanation, she was allowed to compete.

- Her father quit his job to focus on training for the Commonwealth Games with Geeta and her sister Babita.
- During her childhood, her father used to wake her and her sister Babita at 3.30am and train them in Akhada for 3-4 hours. They have to go to school during the day, and when they come back, they have to train for 3-4 hours at night. Since there were no female wrestlers, her father would make them wrestle with boys. According to Geeta, those 5-6 years were the hardest part of their lives.
