Amit Khare was born on Thursday, September 14, 1961 (Age 60; as of 2021) in Jharkhand. While growing up in Ranchi, he studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Hino. For higher education, Khare went to Delhi and attended St Stephen’s College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. (Hons) Physics. Later, he attended IIM-Ahmedabad, where he obtained an MBA in Management. He also holds a certificate in public administration from Syracuse University, New York.

Exposing the Bihar feed scam was a major highlight of Amit Khare’s career. In the late 1990s, he exposed feed scams involving the embezzlement of more than rupees. 940 crore. While serving as DC in West Singhbhum from April 1995 to January 1997, he discovered cash irregularities in the district livestock department. During the investigation, he found two different amounts of rupees. 100 million rupees. The District Animal Husbandry Department was embezzled 90 million yuan. Khare talked about the scam in an op-ed he wrote in 2017, where he wrote,
I didn’t waste time thinking about my career, my family or my future. Otherwise, I won’t be able to make the decision to start investigating the feed scam. “
