Will Drax die in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol? 3?
👨🎤
Would anyone expect Drax the Destroyer to be one of the most interesting characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Until 2014, I’ll tell you to quit smoking no matter what you’re doing. But you know what? James Gunn and Dave Bautista convince me that after the first Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax got more interesting. As if his honed and dry sense of humor in the second Guardians of the Galaxy wasn’t reinforced enough, the Russo brothers were just icing on the cake in Avengers: Infinity War. And holy smoke, isn’t he one of the funniest parts of the movie? Oh, I believe he is, and I think Dave Bautista deserves all the credit he can get. Did you know he actually improvised “Why Gamora”? String? That’s exactly why he needs to be in more movies. But we all need to ask ourselves a question that has been on our minds for the past few years. I think you already know what it is, and since James Gunn and the original crew are currently filming a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I thought it was time to bring it up again. So far, we know this is the last time we’ll see the original Guardians team in the MCU. As sad as it is, we all know it’s inevitable. Just like the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy will lose some of their original members and be replaced by new ones.
I think it’s exciting because there are some very colorful characters to make up the new and reformed Guardians of the Galaxy. The only thing that worries me is which of the original team will perish. Do you remember worrying about who would die before watching Infinity War and Endgame? I’m one of those Iron Man fans who didn’t want Tony Stark to die. After watching Infinity War, I think he escaped after nearly dying at the hands of Thanos. Going into endgame, I just thought he would retire from Iron Man and settle down with his family. Boy, am I wrong to add more salt to the wound and I’m really sad. But hey, that’s why Endgame works so well. It needs to kill big names like Tony Stark, even as the credits roll and the tears are falling. I have a strong feeling that the same thing will happen at the end of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Who will be the guardian of his or her end? The most popular choice is Dave Bautista’s Drax. Even before James Gunn was fired, fans already suspected that Drax would die in the third film. Heck, the speculation grew stronger after James Gunn was fired.
We all remember that Dave Bautista wasn’t happy with the whole Disney fiasco. He has every right to do so, but of all the actors, he is the most vocal about his dissatisfaction with their hasty decisions. Boy, his words didn’t flinch. Saying he was upset about firing James Gunn would be an understatement, and adding fuel to the fire, he strongly suggested that his time working under the Disney banner would soon be over. How sad to talk about everything you want, but we just have to appreciate Dave Bautista’s loyalty to James Gunn. That’s exactly why Disney reconciled with James Gunn and allowed him to give us the last Guardians movie. When the director created that particular dynamic with his actors, the third film would not have been possible without him. So Disney rehired James Gunn, which means everything is fine between them and Dave Bautista, right? Well, maybe not, because I doubt he’s forgiven them at all for firing his friend. Let’s not forget that James Gunn also made a comfy bed at Warner Bros. and worked with DC. If Dave Bautista were to drop the Drax role, he could easily go to James Gunn and ask for a DC role. It might not be as simple as it sounds, but how cool would it be to see Dave Bautista as two comic book characters? I think that’s going to happen eventually, but we still have to see how he ends up with Drax.
But what if Dave Bautista really knew all about the whole James Gunn affair? If you have Disney+, it’s probably because Dave Bautista is doing some advertising for it. Yes, I’m talking about the ones where he plays an old man camping and fishing. But what does he do in downtime? Watch Disney+. This clearly shows that maybe all the bad blood has boiled over. If so, then maybe Dave Bautista hasn’t finished Drax after Guardians 3. That sounds like a good theory, but where else will he be after that? Heck, maybe the other guardians will move on and he’ll stay to help the new team. That sounds cool too, but let’s be honest, someone has to cheer for the team’s final game. Does it have to be Drax? Maybe not, but his death would have fans tearing tissues. He’s been around for a long time, establishing himself as a great character and has since become a fan favorite. He’s a character we don’t want to lose, but that’s exactly why killing him was the logical move. James Gunn definitely wants to end this third Guardians movie on a high note, and he’s always willing to cross the line. He’s said before that killing the protagonist in the MCU is a good thing because we need to know that our heroes are in real danger. If they were all like the heroes of the Fast and Furious franchise, it would be just blind action. Until we hear Groot muttering about family instead of his name. Drax doesn’t have to die, but I think of all the Guardians, he’s at the top of the list. Maybe none of them will die. Honestly, that seems unlikely since James Gunn isn’t afraid to kill his character. I still think Drax is most likely his death, and if he does, fans will feel it. We’ll just miss his dry, unapologetic sarcasm and his uncanny ability to stay invisible. Guardian fans, what do you think?
