Why Brock Lesnar winning the WWE Championship is a bad idea
👩🎤👗
On January 1st, WWE held their first day one pay-per-view, with Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar taking part in the main event of the WWE Universal Championship. However, it was revealed earlier that the Reigns had tested positive for COVID-19, so the scheduled championship game was no longer played. Lesnar then entered a four-man WWE Championship bout consisting of Big E, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley. The end result was that Lesnar became a six-time WWE Champion, effectively ending the Big E’s reign. Here’s the thing, I’m not going to sit here and pretend Big E had a good time as a champ. no. However, this is not the fault of the new day members. The problem is that Vince McMahon didn’t have any confidence in the Big E from the start. The way he won the belt is that a timid person would use the money in a bank briefcase. Granted, Big E. would end up beating Lashley cleanly in a singles match, but he didn’t quite get his hands on the all-rounder. He got the John Cena treatment, which meant he would sell 90 percent of his games in the game, then come back in a series of moves and win. To make matters worse, his title reign never felt important. Big E. actually feels secondary in the RAW brand.
The Deadly Four-player build is more about the character development of Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens. His victories over Owens and Lashley were wiped out as the latter nearly dominated him until Jan. 1. One of those losses actually came after Lashley had played two more games earlier in the night. Big E.’s championship title was lackluster because WWE didn’t even try to make him look like a star. When did someone like Brock Lesnar drop random non-championship games? Heck, when was the last time Roman Reigns lost a non-championship game? Knowing this, Roman Reigns hasn’t lost a game since winning the Universal in 2020. Big E’s Day 1 win won’t make his reign any better; however, Brock Lesnar’s win highlights a problem this company is too blind to see: they don’t know how to make stars! The difference between Reigns and Big E. is day and night, as the company clearly sees the former as a top figure. Vince and his mates chopped off Big E’s leg without giving Big E much of a chance. His character didn’t grow or evolve, and he wasn’t trusted with long-standing hatred. Brock Lesnar is one of the all-time greats and he’s sure to one day be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, but he’s fought Roman Reigns five times, two at WrestleMania 31 and 34.
For this year’s Mania, the rumored main event is Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns. again. Brock Lesnar should play the role of the Undertaker, handing them young stars. Roman Reigns is already a star and doesn’t need another boost from Brock Lesnar. The company could certainly correct Big E’s title reign, treat him like a star, and make him the WWE Champion at WrestleMania. In fact, Brock vs. Big E. could be a title fight at WrestleMania. WWE could risk the Roman Reigns against a rising star, maybe someone like Bron Breakker or Damian Priest. I know Breakker is still green, but he’s gotten better in the ring and has the charisma to put him on the main roster. Also, Smackdown requires Babyface. Reigns killed nearly every top face of the blue brand. It didn’t help that the company kept releasing people like Keith Lee or Karrion Kross, who could have been the main event. WWE’s continued reliance on seniors will bite their ass. I’m not saying Brock Lesnar shouldn’t be in the lead, but Lesnar is no longer the future of this business. Big E is still relatively young and a worthwhile investment. It’s time for WWE to start taking a risk on talent like it did with Roman Reigns. It took more than five years, but they finally found the right role for the WWE Universal Champion, who has remained popular ever since. Not every wrestler can be a top figure, but it’s only when you actually try to make them a star that you find out. For the first few months as Babyface, The Rock was kicked out of the building. Imagine if the company gave up and just released him? The likes of Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, Daniel Bryan, CM Punk and John Cena rose to the top as Vince McMahon took a risk on them and it paid off. Giving Big E. a worthless title and pushing him aside for Brock Lesnar won’t do him any good. The idea that only one person can be the face of the company is foolish, since it’s important to have multiple main events shuffle through the cards. All is not doom and gloom, as Big E can bounce back with the right bookings; however, the company needs to realize they need to be more of a star than Roman Reigns.
