Why do good people die young? This bittersweet reality sounds all too clear, especially when it comes to luminaries who master their craft. When it comes to the world of comedy, one of the biggest losses we’ve come across is Chris Farley, who died in 1997 of an accidental drug overdose. This shocked the entertainment industry and shocked fans around the world.Farley’s career began ordinary actor Member of sketch comedy and variety show “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), followed by a successful film career. It was supposed to be a thriving career that could produce classic comedies whose reruns we’ll still enjoy to this day.his last shot before him past untimely It’s a martial arts comedy, Beverly Hills Ninja. Here are five reasons why we think this movie has all the elements of the perfect action comedy:
5. An interesting backstory
Farley plays Haru, an orphan raised in Japan by a group of martial arts masters. Haru did his best to fit in, but didn’t seem to be doing it well. He may not have the proper skills to become a martial arts master, but his kindness and persevering nature make up for it. Haru’s first mission is to investigate a murder mystery in Los Angeles. This allows him to put his ninja training to good use and also allows him to understand himself better. All of these factors combine to create an enjoyable film that perfectly showcases Farley’s comedic expertise.
4. Presence of potent antagonists
The film’s main villain is the dapper Martin Tanley, played by Nathaniel Parker.Inspector Linley’s Mystery). During his undercover mission, Haru discovers that Martin is involved in a money counterfeiting business. Haru’s investigation puts him in danger, and Martin does his best to get rid of him. Farley and Parker have this strange chemistry due to their opposite personalities. Farley is clumsy and unhinged, while Parker’s movements are calculated and precise. Their “Catch Me If You Can” scene involves a bit of slapstick reminiscent of a ’90s action comedy.
3. A trusted partner
One of the people Haru grew up with was his adoptive brother Gobei, depicted by Robin Shou (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li). Unlike Haru, Gobei is a growing martial arts master who has been known to support Haru in times of distress. That’s why he was sent by their teacher to secretly supervise Haru and protect him during his mission. The scene where Go Baek has to sneak back into Haru’s neck puts him in a position of compromise, memorable and lighthearted. The two characters may not be blood related, but their brotherhood is as strong as a martial arts flying kick.
2. Mysterious heroine
Haru’s main love interest in this film is a woman named Sally Jones, played by Nicollette Sheridan (desperate housewives). Her character is introduced as Martin’s girlfriend, and she begins to suspect his behavior. She goes to the Japanese temple where Haru lives for help, and asks for help investigating Martin’s shady dealings. It’s not hard for Haru to fall for Sally’s blockbuster beauty. A big twist in the film also involves the character of Sally, whose true identity is revealed in the middle of the film. Her real name turns out to be Alison Page, and she’s on a mission herself to catch Martin on the spot as she suspects he’s responsible for her sister’s murder. Haru and Alison team up to take down the bad guys while falling in love along the way. Every action star has her own version of a gorgeous heroine, and Alison ticks all the boxes.
1. Out-of-the-box action sequences with kickass soundtrack
Who can forget Farley’s hilarious action sequence as he spy on Martin at a teppanyaki restaurant pretending to be a Hibachi chef? Or the time he crashed the warehouse where Martin was engaged in illegal activities? Only a handful of action scenes are impressive and still remain rent-free in the hearts of fans. The film’s soundtrack also fits perfectly. From Carl Douglas’ “Kung Fu Fight” to Blonde’s “One Kind or Another.” These upbeat tunes fit in with the film’s theme, essentially capturing the characters’ colorful journeys in their fight for justice. This movie might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s certainly a fun watch that’s unique to Farley.
