Viewers were horrified by Ann Dowd’s role as the new Mrs Garrett in ABC’s Fact Of Life Live reunion, but why is there such a big reaction and why is she replacing the original actress?
ABC takes audiences back to the ’80s with the help of some of Hollywood’s top stars for a Facts Of Life Live reunion.
A rerun of the season 3 episode, Kids Can Be Cruel, stars OG actors Lisa Welchel, Kim Fields and Mindy Cohen. Unfortunately, Nancy McKean didn’t show up.
Joining them are Jennifer Aniston as Blair Warner, Kathryn Hahn as Chopponia Check, Gabrielle Union as Totti Ramsay and Alison Tolman as Natalie Green.
While schoolgirls are at the heart of the show, the Diff’rent Strokes spinoff wouldn’t be as fun without the beloved Edna Garrett. So it’s no surprise that they brought her character back for a reunion.
However, original actress Charlotte Ray apparently didn’t make an appearance.
Mrs Garrett was portrayed by Ann Dowd on Tuesday night, so what did fans think?

Why Ann Dowd Mrs Garrett 2.0?
When Rae passed away in August 2018 at the age of 92, Dowd was on the show.
From the age of 56 in 1982, Rae’s health began to decline. When the first abruptly stopped, she had a pacemaker implanted on the left side of her chest and then another on the right side.
Her heart complications continued and she underwent open-heart surgery to replace her mitral valve, one of four heart valves.
Due to a family history of pancreatic cancer, the actress underwent chemotherapy at an early stage and successfully beat it in 2009.
However, a year before her death, Ray was diagnosed with bone cancer and died at her Los Angeles home.
Her youngest son, Lawrence ‘Larry’ Strauss, is a writer, high school English teacher in Los Angeles, and usa today.

Viewers were surprised to see Dodd play the motherly Mrs Garrett, best known for her role as cruel Aunt Lydia in The Handmaid’s Tale – yes, between the two roles Definitely makes a big difference.
Nonetheless, fans commend Her performance calls her “the perfect Mrs Garrett”, although we’re ready to have her as aggressive as Lydia at any moment!
From the voice to the expressions and costumes, Dodd knocks it out of the park with her portrayal.
