What we know about Mallum
The show’s most compelling storyline is an investigation into the lives of Virginia natives, including Betsy Mallum’s opioid dependence following a back injury.
Patient of Dr. Samuel Finnix, Keaton, a closed lesbian with homophobic parents, so desperate to make enough money to move out with her girlfriend.
Given the tone of the show, it’s likely that Malem’s life will spiral downward with her drug addiction, and who knows how much time she’ll spend funding it?
Mallum is not a real person. Characters like the young coal miner and her doctor are based on interviewees during Macy’s years of research.
Who played Betsy Mallum on Dopesick?
Kaitlyn Dever is the face of Virginia coal miner Mallum, and we first met him at Wednesday’s premiere.
Dever may be young, but she has acted in many famous movies and TV series.
Born in December 1996, the 24-year-old’s entertainment career began in Dallas as a child, voicing Barney the Purple Dinosaur.
After moving to Los Angeles to seek more opportunities, she played Gwen Thompson in 2009’s “American Girl: Kerissa Strong” and became a regular on the ABC sitcom “The Last Man.”
In her teenage acting career, her biggest role was playing Sasha Abernathy, a student of Cameron Diaz’s bad teacher — she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 2012 Young Artist Awards.
Dever’s portrayal of Mary Adler in Netflix’s Unbelievable was nominated for a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and BAFTA Award for Best Actress.
