In 1968, Hawkshaw assembled a group of musicians (Mohawks) to record The Champ. This piece has been sampled by artists such as Salt-N-Pepa, Eric B and Rakim, MC Hammer, Ice Cube and De La Soul. Ini Kamoze also sampled The Champ on his track Here Comes the Hotstepper.
