• In 2006, Vikram became a key figure in the campaign against Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (Unnatural Sexual Conduct), which was re-convicted by the Supreme Court of India. He even attacked Article 377 at an event organised by the TV channel Rashtrapati Bhawan.
• In 2015, Vikram was attacked for accepting Jagdish Tytler’s Pravasi Bharatiya Samman in 2005. This Jagdish Tytler is often accused of taking part in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi. When news of Jagdish’s involvement in the riots broke, Baha Dutt asked Vikram if he would return the prize he had taken from him. Vikram replied—
“If Sahitya Akademi is rude, I will also refund my award.”
