“More and more people think that making short-term moves for players is a sign of panic. However, if the new arrivals help to achieve their long-term goals, then what is the problem? All-round smart move.
“Arteta obviously doesn’t fully trust his midfielders, he wants to create competition for places. He also wants to protect Emile Smith Rowe. Odegaard will be eager to prove himself to Zinedine Zidane.”

The writer has to admit that in many ways he didn’t see this suggesting Odegaard was a panic move.
Arsenal need a creative midfielder to carry the burden of Smith Rowe and they look set to sign one of the most exciting midfielders in Europe.
As Cascarino said, getting Mesut Ozil off the payroll – and ending his legend at the club – and replacing him with Odegaard looks like a very good move.
It’s been a slow window in the Premier League, but at first glance, Arsenal appear to be doing the best job in terms of revenue and spending.
