Similarities between Secret Window and Fight Club
π§πβ‘
The two stories don’t sound like they’re related at all secret window With Fight Club, it’s easy to laugh that they have nothing to do with it. But to be fair, there’s a big similarity that any thinking person will be able to notice just by watching the two films. The most obvious similarity is that both Johnny Depp’s Mort Rainey and Edward Norton’s narrators deal with imaginary characters in which something in their lives manages to trigger in some way. After them, they allow these characters to come to life. Caused their personalities to split, thus creating a new character who knew everything they knew, someone who could foresee them, and someone who was undeniably toxic to them. For Mott, it was strangers from Mississippi who accused him of plagiarizing his story, and he only knew the shooter. For The Voiceover, it’s Tyler Durden, an oddball who is as anti-establishment as they are. As audiences already know, both imaginary characters were born from the minds of the tortured individuals they interacted with. That alone ties the two films together, but there are at least some other similarities.
On the one hand, only the announcer and Mott can see who they interact with, which makes fight club a little interesting because one has to wonder if the other recruits have to deal with the announcer talking to himself or whether his conversation with Tyler It’s one — standing aside, half in his head, half in the real world. For Mott and the shooter, the latter only occurs in one instance where Mott is seen by another person, which ultimately leads to a double murder to hide Mott’s secret.
Another similarity is that there is a woman involved, of course, both situations are very different. As Mott sinks further into a frenzy, he continues to deal with his ex-wife as she occasionally calls him and has to deal with Mott’s absolute disdain for her new boyfriend, whom she cheated on until their marriage broke down Mott. As for the narrator, his own problems with Mara stem from dealing with her first when they were in the same support group, and continue once Tyler has been pleasing Mara all night. It’s a frustrating and distressing time for Mara, but for Amy, Mott continues to become dangerously insane when someone burns down his home. Remember, Tyler eventually admits to burning down the narrator’s apartment as well, to set him on the path to enlightenment. One might argue that the shooter seems to have done the same with Mott, keeping him focused on what’s important while tying up loose stuff in the process. It’s a dark and grim way to look at Amy, but in a story designed to confuse viewers, it’s meaningful enough to make them think about who the shooter really is. two movies It will take them a long time to finally reveal the truth about who their opponent is, but there are plenty of clues along the way that indicate what’s going on.
In Fight Club it has to do with the lull in the imagery in the film, while in The Secret Window there are hints everywhere that the shooter might not be who everyone thinks he is. Both films do a good job of keeping people in the dark for a while before hints start to emerge, and it’s interesting that a lot of people may still be clueless about where said clues might be. But the truth is, both stories are about very troubled people who go through a harrowing moment in their lives that leaves their minds ultimately breaking down completely, although in the narrator’s case, Tyler doesn’t until he absolutely needs to. Be his reality for him. Subconsciously, Tyler is already out and about when the narrator begins to rely on him, because insomnia keeps the narrator up late, doing odd jobs, and secretly figuring out ways to destroy society.
On the other end is Mort Rainey who doesn’t want to spoil anything and is content to sleep on the couch every day until the shooter personality pops up asking him to fix his business and fix things he’s never done Totally satisfied. The differences between the two films are obvious, but the similarities require some observation. However, what is there is quite interesting because it link the two movies in many interesting ways.
