Rio Ferdinand believes Dele Alli showed some of his best qualities in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Fulham last night, Speak on BT Sport.
It was a big night for the Spurs and Dele himself, at Craven Cottage.
Jose Mourinho’s side are within five points of the Premier League’s top four with a match against fourth-placed Chelsea.
Dele, who has just started his second league game this season, has not let this rare opportunity slip away from him.
He was brutally denied his fourth goal of the 2020/21 season by the questionable goal committee after his first-half strike was seen as an own goal by Tosin Adarabioyo.
But that hasn’t diminished Dele’s stellar individual performance.
“How he became famous”
Ferdinand took an equally positive attitude when analysing the 24-year-old post-match.
The former Manchester United defender said: “I think there was something today that I haven’t seen (Dele) in a while.
“It goes beyond strikers – that’s what makes him famous.
“That’s what gets everyone excited about him. Into the box.

“A bit like Frank Lampard. Got into the box and it was cold when he got there.”
And Ferdinand wasn’t sure what was the secret to the return of the old Dele last night.
The pundit said: “I don’t know if it was a tactic of the staff and management or if he just forgot what he was good at.
“That’s what Dele is best at. He’s best at understanding when to run in and out of the box and being a dangerous person.”
Better days in Dele
It’s been a long time since Spurs saw something like Dele’s past – but he got a good glimpse of it last night.
His career will not be affected by a top-four that includes Gareth Bale, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.
This is the line-up that many Tottenham fans would like to see Jose select every week.
In his defense, the Spurs boss will argue that with the resurgence of injuries to Dele and Bale, that’s impossible.
However, if they can all stay fit and pull together, Tottenham has a good chance of securing a European place next year.
