Report: Sam Allardyce reunited with Crystal Palace defender

New West Brom boss Sam Allardyce is keen to bring Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins to Hawthorne next month, according to reports. Evening Standard.
Tomkins played under Allardyce when the pair were at West Ham.
Allardyce was clearly impressed by what he saw. He now wants Tomkins to help keep the Baggies in the Premier League.
Tomkins has not played this season
Tomkins has yet to feature at Crystal Palace this season. However, he has come off the bench in three of his last four games.
This suggests he may not be completely out of Roy Hodgson’s plans.
However, club owner Steve Parish realised the average age of Hodgson’s squad needed to be lowered.

Last month, Parish said: “Average age doesn’t matter if you win or lose, but obviously there’s a time limit to what a player can do physically.
“We are acutely aware that we have to make informed decisions.”
With Tomkins turning 32 in March, Palace may see this as the perfect time to offload the experienced centre-back.
Allardyce returns to Premier League
Allardyce replaced Slaven Bilic earlier this week and West Brom are 19th in the table, three points from the safety zone.
Many thought it was unfortunate that Bilic lost his job after a 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Tuesday.
However, West Brom have won just one of their opening 13 league games. They are also the team that conceded the most goals in the division.
Appointing Allardyce can help with that. The 66-year-old has built his reputation on making his team hard to beat.
busy transfer window
Even with Allardyce’s expertise, reinforcements seemed necessary. Tomkins could be the first player to arrive in the club’s busy January transfer window.
Allardyce’s first test comes when the Baggies take on Midlands rivals Aston Villa on Sunday.
