Good news for Australian motorsport as Oscar Piastri has been announced as F1 Alps reserve driver, but who are his parents? Which F1 race winner is guiding Piastri through the junior teams?
Oscar Piastri has signed with the Alpine F1 team as its reserve driver for the 2022 season.
He will follow Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon.
The Australian is a member of the Alpine F1 Academy and the deal will include intensive preparations for F1’s potential 2023 race seat.
Currently with two rounds remaining in the season, Piastri leads the F2 standings and could be on the sidelines in 2022 if he wins the title.
F2 champions are not allowed to defend their titles.
They have to move on, usually to F1, but in Piastri’s case that doesn’t happen.
He is vying for the last vacant seat in the 2022 Alfa Romeo team.
However, that was transferred to Zhou Guanyu, a member of the academy.
Who are Piastri’s parents, what has he won before, and which ex-Red Bull driver is guiding him through the ranks?

Oscar Piastrie parents reveal
Born in Melbourne in April 2001, Piastri has risen through the ranks of motorsport quickly but impressively.
Piastri moved to Europe in 2015 as the ladder to F1 was very European-based, full of junior single-seater championships.
This is after the usual karting period in Australia.
Oscar’s parents, Chris and Nicole Piastri, helped him get promoted.
It was his father Chris who introduced Oscar to karting and helped him start his racing career.
Like most father-son racing duos, Chris was Oscar’s mechanic early on.
What has Piasteri won in his career?
With the help of his family and parents, Piastri has improved a lot over the past few years – moving up to F2 in 2021.
In 2018, he won the Formula Renault European Cup – a major title on the way to F1.
In pretense before the championship, Valtteri Bottas (2008), Pierre Gasly (2013) and Lando Norris (2016) all took the title.

He then stepped up to the F1 backstop, signing junior single-seater powerhouse Prema Racing for the 2020 F3 season.
Around this time, Piastri became a member of what is now the Alpine Academy.
He took the F3 title with two victories and four podium finishes on his first attempt.
Piastri edged out rookie Theo Pourchaire by three points.
Pourchaire took 19 points from Piastri in the final round at Mugello, but was narrowly behind.
Piastri joins Prema in F2 in 2021, with three victories and four podium finishes to his name.
He leads the standings with 178 points, 36 points ahead of Stephen Chow, with only two rounds left in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.

Who suggested Piastrie?
As the next great hope for Australian F1, Piastri is managed by one of Australia’s largest exporters of racing cars.
Mark Webber raced in F1 between 2001 and 2013, winning nine titles for Red Bull with Sebastian Vettel.
He was supposed to win the 2010 world title, but a crash in the rain in South Korea reduced his chances as Vettel swept him at the death.
Webber is Piastri’s manager, looking for his client seat.
If the 20-year-old Piastrie can make it to F1, he will follow the likes of world champions Sir Jack Brabham and Alan Jones.
