Lewis Hamilton wins three races in 2021 F1 World Championship
Lewis Hamilton didn’t lose the 2021 F1 World Championship in Abu Dhabi – instead, he lost three races earlier this season and Max Verstappen did what he couldn’t.
Whether Mercedes likes it or not, Max Verstappen is the 2021 F1 world champion – while their driver, Lewis Hamilton, has been beaten to second.
Teams do have reason to protest the outcome of race director Michael Massey not following the FIA safety car restart procedure properly.
But if teams take it to the International Court of Appeal – a body set up to investigate disputes in the FIA championship – it will likely be dismissed.
The cover point is likely to be Massi taking control of the safety car, and Verstappen will be officially confirmed as champion – in the eyes of Red Bull.
But while Mercedes has accepted the terms of his dethronement, it cannot be said that Verstappen is not the best driver in 2021.
Hamilton wasn’t the better man of the year – three races along the way cost Hamilton the 2021 F1 World Championship.

a very solid season
Between them, Verstappen and Hamilton have secured 35 of the 44 podium seats in 2021.
Verstappen has 10 wins and 8 seconds.
Hamilton had eight wins, eight seconds and a third.
They finished 1-2 14 times.
The only two races were scoreless in Baku – when Verstappen blew a tyre and Hamilton went off track at the restart at Turn 1.

Neither failed to score at Monza when the No. 33 Red Bull ran into the No. 44 Mercedes.
For the purposes of this article focus Baku will be ignored.
Without Verstappen’s Pirelli blowout, who already won that race comfortably, Hamilton’s mistake would never have happened. after the fact ergo propter hoc.
Instead, it will look at all three races completed, with Hamilton leaving a ton of points at the table.
Verstappen furious as Hamilton wins
Verstappen has finished second in each of Hamilton’s eight wins in 2021.
The only exception was at Silverstone, where the pair collided and Verstappen ended up shunting over the fence at 51 grams.
Of Hamilton’s seven second-place finishes, including points for the fastest lap and sprint in Sao Paulo, 136 points are up for grabs.
Verstappen hauled 130 of those points — 95.58 percent of the total.
His second-place finish in Russia was a turning point for the season.

While Hamilton had the conditions perfectly judged for his 100th victory, Red Bull gambled to put Verstappen on intermediate tyres as the rain began to fall.
They timed it well — jumping him from a low single-digit position to No. 2.
Verstappen’s season is a perfect exercise in limiting damage and maximizing results when winning is impossible.
By contrast, in three races in particular, Hamilton did not.
It was those three races that cost him the 2021 F1 World Championship.

Of the 10 races Verstappen has won, Hamilton has finished second seven times.
Including the fastest laps, Hamilton scored a total of 133 points in these races.
He towed 130 of them — a strike rate of 97.74 percent.
So when Hamilton finished second behind Verstappen, he did a great job of maximizing the result, actually better than Verstappen.

He only missed the fastest lap in second place behind Verstappen in France, Mexico and Abu Dhabi.
But in Monaco, Austria and Belgium – whose respective results and points fluctuations are listed below – Hamilton failed to maximize his results.

- Monaco – Hamilton – P7 +FL – Seven points
- Hamilton dropped 18 points
- Austria – Verstappen P1 +FL – 26 points
- Austria – Hamilton – P4 – 12 points
- Hamilton dropped 14 points
- Belgium – Verstappen – P1 – 12.5 points
- Belgium – Hamilton – P3 – 7.5 points
- Hamilton drops five points

In those three races, Hamilton lost to Verstappen by 37 points – a 74-point advantage for the Dutchman.
A 74-point swing is a chasm the size of a Grand Canyon in a tournament where the points drop to the final game.
Verstappen had 63.5 points in those races and Hamilton had 26.5.
This means that if Verstappen’s 63.5 is considered 100%, Hamilton has only managed 41.7% of the points in the three races in Monaco, Austria and Belgium.
This is where Lewis Hamilton lost the 2021 F1 World Championship.
Combined with the ridiculous decision not to pit after the Hungarian safety lap, he lost a total of 14 points when everyone else did.
So Lewis Hamilton will win the 2021 F1 World Championship all season.
Quite simply, when Max Verstappen is at the top of the field, he doesn’t deserve a championship.
