Lewis Hamilton is in New York for the 2021 Met Gala a day after an accident in Italy with Formula 1 champion rival Max Verstappen. What did the seven-time champion do at the event?
Hamilton at the much-delayed 2021 Met Gala
This year’s Met Gala is the first since 2019.
It was cancelled in 2020 and has been postponed from its traditional slot in May to September of this year.
A regular at Mrs Anna Wintour’s events was Lewis Hamilton.
Mercedes drivers attend an event at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art near Manhattan’s Central Park.
Hamilton attended the event a day after he collided with F1 champion rival Max Verstappen at the Italian Grand Prix.
Verstappen slammed into the curb and was launched into the air after Hamilton emerged from a pit stop while racing side by side at Monza.
Red Bull landed on top of Mercedes – it was the Halo cockpit head restraint that saved Hamilton’s life.

Hamilton is five points behind Verstappen in the drivers’ championship after failing to finish for the first time since the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix.
Hamilton pays tribute to black fashion designer
Over the past year and a half, Hamilton has become increasingly vocal about advancing equality, diversity and opportunity for blacks and minorities.
The seven-time world champion has formed the Hamilton Commission to study how motorsport, often the white male space, can improve and diversify.
At the Met Gala, he reserved a table and invited the black fashion designer who had inspired him as a guest.

Will going to the Met Gala affect Hamilton’s title race?
You might be wondering why Hamilton flew to New York during the pandemic and The most intense world championship in years.
In recent years, the Brit has added a role to fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. But despite his increased off-track activity, that hasn’t deterred Hamilton from getting involved.
The most famous example was in 2018, after Hamilton won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
There’s a two-week break before the next race in Singapore – a track where Mercedes has historically struggled.
He competed in Shanghai, New York and London before flying to Singapore.
This raised questions about his focus and lifestyle, but Hamilton answered in the most depressing way possible.
After struggling early in qualifying, he completed one of the best pole laps ever in the first round of the final stretch.
It was a victory in the race that all but ended Sebastian Vettel’s 2018 title hopes.
