IndyCar is gearing up for the final oval this weekend, but skipping the oval this season, will Romain Grosjean race at the Gateway this weekend?
Easy access to the elliptical run
After being dumped by the Haas Formula 1 team at the end of 2020, Romain Grosjean’s attention quickly turned to IndyCar.
The nine-time podium finisher will soon be able to secure a part-time seat at No. 51 with Rick Ware Racing at Dale Coyne Racing.
Grosjean’s deal for seat #51 was initially only for street and road courses.
The French didn’t want to risk taking the oval without experience.
“If I was 25 and didn’t have kids, I’d do the whole season, no question about it,” he explained in February.
“But I’m a father of three, and for two minutes and 45 seconds in Bahrain, I knew they thought they had lost their father.
“So, if I were young, yes, I would give it my all and accept the fact that all motorsport involves risk.
“But as a parent, I can’t put my family through it again, you could have a big accident in Indy.”

Positive test means debut
Grosjean had a recent test at the Gateway that got him ready for an elliptical run.
He committed to this weekend’s IndyCar race at the Gateway and was delighted after 166 laps of the short oval.
He will drive the No. 51 machine again, finishing second last time at the Indianapolis Road Raceway.
What time is the game?
The entire event, including practice and qualifying, will take place on August 21 at the track outside St. Louis, Missouri.
Practice starts at 13:15 pm local time, which is 19:15 pm in the UK.
Qualifying is scheduled to take place at 17:00 pm UK local time (23:00 pm).
The green flag will be lowered at 20:40pm local time (2:40am on Sunday in the UK).
The race will run over 260 laps with live coverage from NBC in the US and Sky Sports F1 in the UK.
Who is leading the standings?
With just four rounds remaining in the 2021 season, Chip Ganassi’s Alex Palou takes the top spot.
The Spaniard had 415 points, but his lead was wiped out after a DNF in Indianapolis.
Only five drivers remain with realistic championship ambitions.
Pato O’Ward (394 points) led the way behind Palou and defending champion Scott Dixon had 381 points.
Josef Newgarden (360) and former Sauber F1 driver Marcus Ericsson (353) keep in touch in the title race.
