Max Verstappen wins a thrilling maiden world title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, but how do you become an F1 champion?
Everything has to end on the last lap, doesn’t it?
A late safety car cluttered the field in Abu Dhabi, with Red Bull opting to replace La Verstappen with new soft tyres, while Hamilton remained on the field with worn hard tyres.
It all came down to a restart on the final lap at Yas Marina as Verstappen forced his way through and defended Hamilton at Turn 5.
He crossed the finish line first to claim his first world title – and Red Bull’s first since Sebastian Vettel in 2013.
But how much money does Verstappen get for winning the F1 world championship?

Max Verstappen F1 Championship prize money revealed
The F1 world champion doesn’t get a “championship fee” like he does from the series itself.
Instead, Verstappen’s bonus will come from bonuses in his Red Bull contract.
That would include things like winning championships. Win the race and get pole position.

Verstappen has 10 wins and 10 shots on his way to the 2021 title.
Details of his contract with Red Bull have not been made public.
However, it is known that his annual base salary is about $18.5 million.

What about Mercedes and the team’s money?
Mercedes’ seven-game winning streak ended in Abu Dhabi as Verstappen snuck the title.
They are the only team to have won seven consecutive drivers’ and constructors’ titles.
To win the constructors’ championship, Mercedes was rewarded handsomely.
The efforts of Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will see the team earn more than $100 million from F1 and become the winner of the constructors’ championship.
This consists of historical payouts, sponsorship fees and positions in the tournament.
