The Memphis Grizzlies announced Wednesday that they will be running a fan promotion and jersey swap for the kids. After Ja Morant stared at a ‘disrespectful’ young Warriors fan, they made an ‘A+ marketing’ move.
After beating the Lakers last week, Ja Morant led the Grizzlies to a big win over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night. The standout point guard scored 29 points on 11-of-23 shooting as Memphis won 116-108.
The postgame conversation, however, was about Ja Morant’s gaze on a young Warriors fan. Now, the Grizzlies have taken the “S-Class” branding move and they’re offering fans a jersey swap.

Jia and ‘disrespectful’ Warriors fans
In the fourth quarter against the Warriors, Jia drove to the basket for a tough layup that nearly sealed the victory for Memphis.
After the shot, Jia turned to a nearby fan, where he met a young fan wearing a Warriors jersey. After the game mode was fully activated, Morant refused to give his child a high five. After the game, Ja Morant joked that it was a mistake for fans to wear the wrong jersey, saying: “It’s disrespectful for him to wear that jersey.”
Morant added, however, that he wanted to find the young fan so he could send him a Memphis jersey. “Someone found his info. I’ll send him a copy myself,” he said.
On Wednesday, the Grizzlies, apparently looking to capitalize on the event, announced a promotion where kids 12 and younger can trade any opposing player’s NBA jersey (adult or youth size) for a new Grizzlies Ja Morant or Jaren Jackson Jr replica.
In addition to the Grizzlies jerseys, the kids will also receive a pair of square or pinnacle-level tickets against the Minnesota Timberwolves that night. The plan is to donate all opposing player jerseys exchanged at the event to charity.
The ‘New Year, New Jerseys’ promotion and jersey exchange will take place in the lobby of the FedExForum before the game on January 13th at 5pm local time.
Fans React to Grizzlies’ ‘S-Class’ PR
People on social media got wind of the Grizzlies’ promotion and joked that it was an elite PR move. Popular NBA pundit Rob Perez said: βThe Grizzlies tweeting these kids with actionable promotions is an S-brand. Curtain call.β
Other fans were equally impressed by the Grizzlies’ PR machine:
Whoever runs their social event needs an immediate raise. It doesn’t get any better than this.
