Baseball trailblazer Tony Stone married to US Army’s ‘first black officer’

Baseball legend Tony Stone was celebrated in Google’s animated doodle as part of Black History Month.
Breaking athletic barriers in the 1950s, she was the first woman to regularly play in a major U.S. men’s professional sports league and was one of three women to join the Indianapolis Joker Men’s League team.
Her personal life also became a topic of discussion as readers learned more about her inspiring legacy.

Toni Stone Marries Aurelious Pescia Alberga
At 23, Stone moved from her childhood home in St. Paul, Minnesota, to the Fillmore district of San Francisco. There, she met future husband Captain Aurelious Pescia Alberga at Jack’s Tavern, the first black-owned nightclub nearby.
The couple married in 1950 – an age gap of 37 years between them.
Alberga was born on October 22, 1884, an Aucklander who served as a non-commissioned officer in the First World War. Graduated from Officers Candidate School in 1919, he became the Army’s first black second lieutenant. UPI.
according to Los Angeles Times, Stone called him “the first black man to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army.”
He trained and directed Company A, 365th Infantry, and was promoted to lieutenant before leaving the Army in the 1920s. Before retiring in the 1960s, Alberga spent his military career working for a bail company in San Francisco.
In 1988, the veteran died of natural causes at a nursing home in Alameda, California, at the age of 103.

They are loving aunts and uncles
Not sure if the couple have children, but they are definitely close to their nieces and nephews: Maria A Bartlow (niece), Monica D Franks (great niece), Odin Bartlow (great nephew) and Shawn Bartlow (great nephew).
