Arsenal star opens up Arteta conversation after summer return

Mohamed Elneny has revealed his conversations with Mikel Arteta following Arsenal midfielder’s return from Besiktas loan Evening Standard.
Arsenal loaned Elneny to the Turkish club in September 2019, and after playing regularly, the Egyptian returned to his home team in August 2020.
The move is clearly in Elneny’s favour, as the midfielder has made 16 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League this season.
Elneny has revealed what he had discussed with Arteta about what the 28-year-old must do to return to Arsenal’s first team.
Elneny said: “Mickel didn’t talk to me until I came back, but when we started the season he started talking to me.
“He said: ‘Mo, we have something new now. We have to understand how I want the midfield to play, and if you don’t understand anything about the new system now, just ask me.'”
“He helped me understand the way he wanted us to play and that helped me a lot.”

With Elneny transitioning from fringe to regular starter this season, Arteta must have made his point.

The 28-year-old midfielder has scored twice this season, his latest since arriving late against Olympiacos in the Europa League.
It was an exceptional goal considering Elneny was only on the pitch for eight minutes.
Elneny started 12 of Arsenal’s 28 Premier League appearances and made four substitute appearances.
The work Arteta has been doing for the Egyptian is clearly starting to pay off, with the midfielder seemingly happier and playing without fear.
Arsenal face Olympiacos today (5.55pm) in a comfortable 3-1 second leg. Elneny wanted to be at Emirates from the start.
