About Alejandro Farah: Colombian tennis player (1983-)
👧👓⚡
Alejandro Fara Ramirez ([aleˈxandɾo ˈfaʎa raˈmiɾes]; born 14 November 1983) is a retired professional male tennis player from Colombia. The southpaw turned pro in 2000 and reached a career-high No. 48 in the world in singles in July 2012. Farah defeated ninth seed Nikola Davydenko at Wimbledon 2006 and ninth seed Tommy Haas in straight sets at the 2007 Sony Ericsson Open. He beat No. 5 seed Ivan Ljubicic and others at the 2007 Lyon Grand Prix to reach the semifinals.
Profession
The Colombian became the first player from the country to break into the top 100 of the ATP rankings since Mauricio Hadad in 1996. In 2006, Alejandro qualified for a career-high ATP tournament five times. In his second game of the year, he reached the final of the Mexico City Challenger. He then went on to earn points for his country in the Davis Cup against Paraguay Davis. Then in late April, he won the Bogota Challenger. At Roland Garros, he advanced to the second round after beating Justin Gimelstob, although he lost to Roger Federer in the second round. At Wimbledon a few weeks later, he beat Nikola Davydenko in a four-set thriller. His win over Davydenko was his first win over a top 10 player and a first for a Colombian player. However, he was defeated by Philipp Kohlschreiber in another four-set match in the second round. He then made it to the second round at the U.S. Open. He beat Juan Martin del Potro in four sets in the opening round before being beaten in straight sets by Dmitry Tursunov.
Farah nearly made a splash in the first round of Wimbledon in 2010, beating defending champion Roger Federer in the first two sets and serving a 5-4 fourth set (with three points shy of winning the title), before Federer 5– 7, 4–6, 6–4, 7–6, 6–0 to win.
His best result in a Grand Slam was at the 2011 French Open. Farah entered the fourth round, losing to unseeded Juan Ignacio Chera.
At the 2014 Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Farah became the first player to reach the final of a grass tournament by beating 2011 champion Philipp Kohlschreiber 5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Colombian. He lost to six-time champion Roger Federer in the final.
junior
Alejandro Falla’s semi-final at the 2001 French Open was a huge boost to Colombian players eager to excel at the Junior Open.
doubles
He and compatriot Carlos Salamanca beat Germans Marcus Baier and Philippe Petzschner in the French Open junior doubles, the Colombian’s first win at a Grand Slam tournament Junior champion.
