About Albert Zoer: Dutch jumper (1975-)
👧👓⚡
Albert Zoll (born 31 July 1975, Drenthe Echten) is a Dutch handicap champion. He owns his own business, Zoer BV, for breeding and training stallions, and his father, Arent Zoer, helps him with this business.
background
Zoer grew up with two older sisters, Jenny and Gina, on the farm in Echten, which his father bought a year before he was born. The farm started with just five stables, but that number grew to more than two dozen when Zoll and his sisters all rode. He has competed in steeplechase since he was 7 years old, and he claims his passion or addiction to horse riding made him dislike going to school. At 16, Zoll was part of the Dutch team that won the 1989 European Pony Championship. Jenny Zoer competed in the 1992 Olympics (the Netherlands won the team long jump gold medal). Meanwhile, her brother competed in the European Handicap Juniors and Junior Riders in 1991 and 1993. While he is certainly a serious contender, he has yet to achieve his Olympic dreams.
Career Highlights
His team won gold medals at the 2006 World Equestrian Games and the 2007 European Championships in Mannheim. On December 20, 2007, he and Okidoki won at the International Horse Show in Olympia, London. He and his Masam won the Grand Prix at the 2008 Samsung Super League in Rotterdam. Two weeks later, he and Sam again won the League Grand Prix in Aachen. He also won round 10 of the 2008-09 FEI World Cup obstacle course in Bordeaux despite a double broken leg. The Royal Netherlands Equestrian Federation confirmed that before the accident, Zoll had been the main contender for the Dutch Olympic equestrian team in Hong Kong. The fracture occurred in training on Tuesday after Zoll’s victory in Aachen.
Global Champions Tour
Zoer and his horse Okidoki were the winners of the 2007 Global Champions Tour final.
Zoer and Sam finished runners-up on the first day of the 2009 Global Champions Tour in Doha, Qatar. With a finishing time of 40.42 and zero penalty, he was only a third of a second behind champion Jessica Kurten. His winnings were €38,581.
Zoer rides an Okidoki to finish third in the first round of qualifying for the Global Champions Tour Finals in Doha on November 13, 2009. His prize is 8500 euros. His last was 75.63. This ranking makes Zoll fully eligible for the final prize money (€300,000) on November 14, as 25 contenders narrow to 18 in the first round. Eric Ramaze and Bernardo Alves are ahead of Zoll.
