About Akinori Nishizawa: Japan Football Association player (1976-)
Akira Nishizawa (Ayuki Nishizawa, Akira Nishizawa, born June 18, 1976) is a former Japanese football player. He played for the Japanese national team.
club career
Nishizawa was born on June 18, 1976 in Shizuoka Prefecture. After graduating from Shimizu East High School in 1995, he joined Cerezo Osaka. He moved to Spanish club Espanyol in December 2000. In July 2001, he moved to English club Bolton Wanderers. In his brief stint with Bolton Rovers, he is best known for scoring a dramatic late equaliser against Walsall in the Carabao Cup. In 2002, he returned to Osaka Cerezo and was relegated to the J2 league in 2002. In 2002, the club won the second place and was promoted to the J1 league. In 2006, the club was relegated to the J2 league. He moved to local club Shimizu S-Pulse in 2007. He returned to Cerezo Osaka in 2009 and retired at the end of the 2009 season.
National team career
On May 21, 1997, he made his debut on behalf of the Japanese national team against the South Korean team. Although he scored 2 goals in 4 games in the 1998 World Cup qualifiers in 1997, he was not selected for the 1998 World Cup Japan team. In 2000, he represented Japan for the first time in three years. In the Asian Cup in October 2000, he played in all 6 games and scored 5 goals. The Japanese team won the championship. In the 2001 Confederations Cup, he also played 4 games and scored 1 goal. The Japanese team won the second place. He was selected for the Japan team at the 2002 World Cup and played 1 game. This match was his last in Japan. Until 2002, he played 29 times for Japan, scoring 10 goals.
