Akashi Shiga Nosuke (Akashi Shiga nosuke) (c. 1600 – c. 1649) Allegedly an ancient sumo wrestler, officially recognized as the first yokozuna. A legendary figure whose historical existence is disputed. He is said to have been active in the Kanon era (1624-1643). He is described as being huge, standing 2.58 meters (8 feet 6 inches) tall and weighing 184 kilograms (406 pounds).
It is said that he was born in Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture in central Japan, the son of Shuzen Yamanouchi, a samurai who served Riemon in Sumura.
